Hey man. I gave my opinion and qualified it by saying I had limited bass exposure. I'm a guitar player, but I've dicked around on a few basses and played with guys who have used a wide variety of 4 and 5 strings.
That's cool that P-Nut likes them, but I guess Bootsy Collins and Jack Bruce must have shitty taste, too.

The bass player for the old Arsenio Hall show played a Warwick, too. Cool basses, but they have a decidedly un-rock look to them.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Music Man Stingrays yet(didn't notice bond did until after I submitted,) they're widely available and play far better than Warwick in my opinion. However the best bass I've ever played has to be a Ken Smith. That being said, I wouldn't trade my '75 P-Bass for anything. Also I do not like Rickenbackers at all. I don't like how heavily lacquered the necks are and how difficult, at least on my rig, it is to dial in a good tone.

I guess when the average person thinks of an electric bass they probably immediately go to the fender precision.
It's a classic. I love p-basses.
But the holy grail? The most iconic, sexiest, most distinctive ,best sounding (totally subjective) is the classic rickenbacker.
Nothing can frick with it as far as tone. Recently had a friend play my rick for the first time through a vintage Ampeg 70's head and his response was:
"Mother of god! I need this in my life!"
It's a classic. I love p-basses.
But the holy grail? The most iconic, sexiest, most distinctive ,best sounding (totally subjective) is the classic rickenbacker.

Currently I'm running with the SVT7pro with the 610 cab. Used to have the classic all tube but got tired of the weight when I was gigging. Now that I'm not I regret the decision.

yea p-nut is the only Warwick player 
Warwicks are versatile. you can play anything from jazz to death metal with them. they are my holy grail as a bass player.
but I do love my p-bass. threw some Seymour Duncan pickups in it and it sounds great.

Quality instruments for sure but generally no one thinks of them as "iconic" basses like a rickenbacker or P-Bass.

I'll agree with that
I'm just speaking from a personal standpoint. I've never really wanted a les paul either. my holy grail guitar is a PRS custom 24.
