mid city ballroom is no longer BYOB inside anymore as of last week. BR ATC came down on them.

Would this also apply to Red Dragon?

Bump

So is it safe to say at this point that this place is a bust as far as being a competent booker for music? Whole lotta nothing so far, nothing noteworthy on the upcoming schedule either. So it goes for The City Of Musical Yawns.

Baton Rouge is just not a big enough town to handle another music club. There's no demand for it. Varsity is gonna get all the big name acts.

Did Robert De Niro spill this revelation to you?

i believe i was referring to the philosophy and branding of those venues as a model to achieve. The Varsity has the name and means to get back to that level. Basin will struggle for a bit, but i hope they make it.

I only worked with De Niro that one time sadly .... but in retrospect it was silly name drop and frankly immature. I will say in my line of work i have to be around celebrities almost daily when we are filming. But using it in an argument with an internet troll is unbecoming and i can see that now. I'm pretty comfortable in my contributions to my hometowns music scene and in my day job so take it to someone else.

I don’t see how Basin couldn’t fill the void left by the Spanish Moon. Dead Poet doesn’t book enough touring acts and Mid City doesn’t sell alcohol.

Spanish Moon just booked a show for February so apparently they still plan to reopen. Of course the Melvins show was booked there a few months ago too.

I’ll believe it when I can actually walk in there and order a drink at the bar. Until then, I’m just going to assume that every show booked there will end up cancelled or moved to mid city ballroom.

Yep, they've been scheduling shows ever since they closed. I remember like two years ago seeing something on Pollstar and telling a friend "Oh yeah, they have a show scheduled in a couple of months. They'll have to be back open by then or they wouldn't have done that." Riiiight...
