Baroness new album Gold & Grey

Kick arse album artwork, once again, by Baizley. Dude's art is so awesome.

Love this band.

This tour was with Deafheaven, which would be freaking awesome.

I've been a fan of the band for a while though. New track didn't blow me away. Maybe it will grow on me, but there wasn't a lot to sink your teeth in to.

I also don't understand why they feel the need to get so cute with the production again like they did on Purple. Keep it simple. What's with all of the clipping and compression?

Wanted to see them with Deafheaven in Berkeley last weekend but it sold out before I could get tickets. Had to settle for Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats in Frisco that same night instead.

I'm liking the first half of the album better than the second, save "Borderlines."

There is too much filler. Lots of little instrumental pieces that don't really add anything. Songs are ok, but I've never been a huge fan.

I listened to almost the whole thing on my commute this morning. It’s definitely trying harder for an overall artistic statement than past albums. Definitely has lots of stylistic flourishes and choices. I approve. Stereogum thinks it is their best, but I’ve never gotten over the Blue record as my favorite. That’s probably because that was my first Baroness album though.

I’ve listened to it a few times and it’s my least favorite record of theirs so far.
