Mothers Finest. Especially as a live act, they could really throw down

Not sure about this, as the category of country rock is a little too narrow to describe them.

I'm not sure about the take at all. First of all, they get plenty of credit. It's a legendary band with legendary ups and downs (and with the passing of Garth a few weeks back, they're all gone now).

Second - even if we attribute Blonde on Blonde as the genesis of "modern" country rock as a genre, only Robertson and Danko played on that. Fairer to say that Dylan kicked it off (with Robertson's help) and The Band didn't really dig into it. They did "The Band" stuff.

If anything, Blonde on Blonde led directly to The Flying Burrito Brothers and Poco, and those 2 bands were really the banner bearers for country rock (at that moment in music history, more of a branch or sequel to folk music, rather than a true fusion of country and rock, although there was some level of fusion, of course), until The Eagles took it during their pre-Hotel California albums.

Husker Du is a good pick. You could make a case that Green Day, Weezer, and basically every pop punk band in existence are just going back over the ground already walked by Husker Du.

They don't get the credit they deserve.

That was my only point.

I thought they were far and away the best band to ever come out of America. (North America, anyway)

I was thinking about adding them but I kinda feel like they do get proper credit.

Husker Du paved the way for all of the late 80s/early 90s guitar bands. Not only musically, but they were the first big indie band to sign to a major label - they did it ahead of Sonic Youth, R.E.M., the Replacements, Jane's Addiction.

Yeah, these starving artists have languished in obscurity for far too long.

I love The Band but nobody is far and away better than the Allman Brothers.

I agree tho, they're incredible and underrated
