Marco,

He did. I spoke to him a couple days ago.
It seems like the estate wants to sell each system as
a package deal. I'm just looking for the 275. He's going to check with them and see if they'll sell the one piece. Super nice guy and knows a ton about audio.

Picked up the c50 last weekend Waiting on the 275, then hook em all up at once for maximum effect.

Thanks again for all your help!

No problem man...enjoy it, Mac is killer gear!

BTW--they just announced 3 new pieces this week...a stand alone phono stage (first time ever), a new tube pre amp/DAC/phono to replace the c2500, and a new Blu-Ray player.

If you are interested, I can get you info on the N.O. Audio group. There are guys that rotate gear all the time, and it is nice to know who the previous owner was if you buy it second hand.

And there are some knowledgeable folks in our group with every kind of audio rig imaginable.

What's up boys? I got Piper at the Gates of Dawn and spun that this weekend. Damn it sounds fantastic. Pink Floyd albums just don't disappoint on vinyl.

Hey Marco... Suggestions on a phono cable? I'm getting the kimber 4prs you recommended. Do I just get kimber Phonos as well?

Be careful buying the correct phono cable.

A true phono cable is terminated at one end with either an RCA or balanced XLR (depending upon the input type of your phono pre amp), and terminated with a 5-pin DIN connector that plugs directly into a tonearm plug. This is common practice in the higher end tables as an audiophile will sometimes use a table, tonearm, and cartridge from different manufacturers. So it became common for the connection to come directly out of the tonearm, not the table/plinth.

Nowadays, for simplicity, the lower priced/entry level tables (and some high end too) have put an RCA jack on the back of the table. They have pre wired the tonearm through the plinth to the output jack on the back. This means that you just need to use a cable with an RCA on both ends.

When looking for tonearm/phono cables, you want something that is well shielded as the signal that is passing through the cable is of very low voltage (around 2v for MM and around 0.5v for MC). For reference, a CD player pushes out a 4v signal. This sometimes allows for interference or cross voltages to bleed into the cable if the cable is of a very poor quality or it is close to another cable that is carrying a high voltage or a high amperage. Try to keep the phono cable isolated from just about everything else if possible.

Go to the Nordost website and look at Odin, Valhalla, and Tyr phono cables to see what I am talking about with regards to the 5-pin DIN connector (just so you can see what they look like...you'll shite a brick when you see how expensive those cable lines are!!)

Actually, the entry level lines for Nordost are pretty good. They are the White Lightning, Purple Flare, and Blue Heaven. You can get a standard RCA cable from any one of those series and be OK.

Also, remember that you will need one pair of cables (L+R) to go from the table to the phono pre amp, and another pair of cables to go from the phono stage (pre amp) to the integrated amp.

Thanks marco!

Will look into them. Not sure when I'll get the nomad in. Ordered it last week and with this flooding crap I'm assuming it will take a little longer to come in.
That being said, I may be able to get away with one set due to the phono being in the table itself.
Can't seem to find anything for certain to show the back of the table or say what connectors are needed. So I'll wait till it comes in to be sure. Then order my cables and the speakers.

Edit: looked at the Nordost. See there is a local in BR that sells them. Also see the Nordost recommends getting them burned in. Should I worry about that? There is a local dealer and provides it for free if you buy the cables from him and $75 if you don't. This may be one of those things that I couldn't tell, but the cables aren't cheap so I want to make sure I'm doing it right.

VPI Nomad (built in phono)
Quad Vena
Vandersteen 1Ci
Kimber 4pr speaker wires
Nordost white lightning phono?

You do not need to burn them in.

You can get Nordost from MusicDirect for a good discount.

If the phono stage is built into the Nomad, you will only need one set of cables.

Hey guys,

My house flooded. I had roughly 600 LP's that were all soaked. Is there any point in trying to save the vinyl itself? I know the sleeves are toast.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The sleeves and jackets are shot, but the LPs will be good after a cleaning. I did this after Katrina to about 3000 45rpm singles from my dads place.

Use a solution of very light Palmolive and water. You need the soap to cut through the chemicals and grease in the funk water. Although you wouldn't use dish soap normally on records, it is safe to say that the average record isn't submerged under water full of caustic chemicals either!

We actually created a sort of assembly line in my garage...my dad would wash, hand off, and I would dry, and place in a new paper sleeve which I ordered from musicDirect.

If you need help, let me know. I will help you. I am about an hour east of BR. I can even pick them up from you in BR tomorrow and begin the cleaning process over the weekend. Let me know.

New sleeves for 600 LPs will run about $200--I wIll order them and cover that cost for you if you want. I can probably get them delivered to me in a day--I don't know how long FedEx is taking in your area right now.

Again, let me know and I will get them ordered overnight for you.

If you want, contact me and I will give you my contact (mobile #) info.

I also had a pretty ingenious way to let them dry...

I'll post a pic of how I did that in a little while...

Atta boy Marco!

On a lighter note. I was talking to a neighbor tonight who informed me I was wasting my money on the cables... Told me to buy Amazon brand cables b/c they sound the same.

Told him what I had already bought and what that all I had left to get were the vandersteens (gave me an odd look) and the cables... Then he went on a rant.

Asked what info he had to show and he said he used to sell stuff

Meh...the anti cable nazis...

You spent what...$100?...no big deal.

It's not like you spent $6000 for one interconnect.

I could go on a rant about the people bitching about expensive cables, but I just don't have it in me tonight.

You did just fine...ignore your neighbor.

Here that man! This has been a trying time... Figured I'd give you a good laugh. Lord knows I need one.

Told him the same thing... That he was acting like I spent $1000 on cables. $100 or so on the speaker wires and $100 or so on the phonos
