Are the 44.1 cd quality files streamed at all? Or is that just from a CD that you’ve stored?
I have a little bit of knowledge from here, but I’m mostly a dumbass.
I like the lumin d2, I just don’t know if I want to drop that much.
shite my bad. You’re right, The d2 is more than your listed range. I was thinking I paid around $1500 for it.
Yeah streaming cd quality through tidal & qobuz. sorry, that wasn’t really clear.
Just fricking up left and right today.

The giant rig up and running.
I’ve got a little question for you…I’m thinking about swapping out the Mac integrated for my Hegel h160 integrated, and there isn’t a phono stage built into the Hegel…
Sooooo, I’m wondering if you might have a few recommendations to look at in the < $1k range? The Hegel also doesn’t have a mono switch, and while I don’t have a ton of mono records, it would be nice if the preamp had one so I’m covered. I’m good with buying used gear if there are deals that pop up.
I had this Darlington Labs MP-7 (High End +40dB Discrete High-Voltage J-FET RIAA Phono Preamp) recommended to me on one of the forums. I’m in over my head when it comes to matching specs between gear.
But I just thought I’d reach out to you, or anyone else in here, that might have experience with different phono preamps. Up to this point I’ve only ever owned integrated amps with built in phono stages, and I’ve been fairly pleased with all of them so I haven’t really looked into phono preamps all that much.
So...
- phono under $1k & preferably with a mono switch.
Current gear:
- Hegel H160 (specs)
- Dynavector 10x5 high output MC (cartridge specs)
- VPI Scout

McIntosh MP 100
Mac phono stages have never been an afterthought. They are quiet, and offer a ton of features. This retails for $2K, but you can buy used for around $1300.
The phono stage in my c1100 pre was good enough to make me ditch my stand alone Esoteric E-03 ($6000).
I am also partial to the entire Lehman line (German). Dead quiet, very solid, clean, tight low end (very solid state).

Hey Marco…. Any thoughts on that streamer question I posted?
Basically, is there anything worth moving up past the blue node for… up to around $1500?
Cambridge, project, NAD etc?

Thanks Marco. I’ll keep my eyes open for a used one. And I have seen the Lehman audio phonos are really well regarded, and there are definitely used ones available out there.
Do you know anything about LFD phonos like this one here? it has some solid reviews online.
Also, I’m finding more often than not phono preamps don’t have a mono/stereo switch built in. Is there any easy way to add a mono switch into the chain somewhere if your amp & preamp don’t have the option?

Nice. I wanted that album. How does it sound?

I thought the quality was good like most VMP pressings. However I thought it was lacking a little bottom end, which may be due to me still working out the room setup (I don’t have any other copies to a/b with.)
What are you guys using for stylus care? There is some fuzz on my ortofon blue that I can’t seem to get off with a dry brush or oznow cleaner.

You just listed the two things I use.
I know they sell liquid cleaner type solutions, but I don’t have any experience with those.
