Where to go for repairs of vintage solid state?

I've got a beautiful Luxman 309 integrated (circa 1973) that I plugged up last night after being in storage for a long time and now the left channel is motorboating.

I'd like to send it off to somebody good at this kind of thing. It's too nice a piece to junk.

Not sure, hopefully some of the Baton Rouge boys might have a shop or two in mind. If not I’d google stereo repair services and ring up a few, explain the issue and see if that’s something they might be able to help with.

Last year’s (or 2016?) release of Lawnboy on vinyl had impeccable quality, I would imagine BB would be the same. I’m not a big BB fan so I’m passing on this latest offering.

I'm in Baton Rouge. Over the years I've used Audio Video Specialist in the Elmwood area of Metarie, but the last time I was in there, a year ago, the owner was working on closing down the business. I think I saw mention on this site that he had closed, but he still owned the building. You might try calling their number and find out if he is still taking occasional projects. Other than that, I don't know any places locally.

If I am correct, that Calexico LP was a limited RSD release, no?

I just noticed your "Record Store Day" sticker on the LZ album, I never knew such a thing existed until Saturday. Of the three local record stores, two participated. The third was quoted in the local alt-weekly saying the whole thing is a sham and hurts the local mom/pops.

It has kinda turned into a sham, but there are some records that I did want.

Example...About four years ago, Phish released their first album on a double vinyl. There were 5000 total pressed, 2500 of them had a lithograph and 2500 not. You did not know which when you got until you opened it. I actually got the one with the lithograph in it—cool.

Fast forward one year. I am surfing Music Direct and I see that very album, Junta, for sale. Unlimited quantities available. They rereleased it...total bullshite.

The following year, record store day had their second album, lawn boy, as a double LP release for $50, Limited to 5000. A year later, they released it again with unlimited supply.

Last year’s record store day offered the Meters 3LP rarities on vinyl, limited to 499 copies. I got one. Three months later I saw stack of about 50 of them in the record store. They re-release that as well.

So now, I only go for the numbered, limited edition grateful dead LPs. They have not, and will not re-release any of those.

There is an electronics repair shop on Sherwood, near the Interstate in the shopping center by the Baskin and Robbins. I used them about ten years ago. I think they are still around.

Hey Marco, I wanna thank you for the rec on the Zu Audio Omens - got a set of the Dirty Weekend Mk ii on the last run. Truly exceptional, and they pair quite nicely with the Quad Vena Integrated amp. And the bonus is they are pretty darn sweet to look at as well - got mine in the American Walnut finsh. Looks kinda Danish Modern.

Good to hear...literally! That finish is beautiful.

You will be surprised to hear how deep they reach when you run very low frequency music through them.

I am listening to mine now--Grateful Dead RSD LP.
