I have a Marantz 238b receiver. My turntable and speakers are nothing special.

I've got about 8-9 vinyl coming in through Vinyl Me, Please this month.

December & January's release and then some addons I picked up from their curated list.

I'm looking at getting a turntable to convert my old lps I still have from the 70s and 80s. I have some pretty obscure, rare stuff and all the early Elton John, ELO, BTO, Jethro Tull sorta stuff.

Looking at this TT....any opinions?

That one is probably pretty good for your purposes. It has gotten good reviews on Amazon, and I think my old roommate had that turntable. For the price especially, should be good for ripping those old LP's.

Do you have the Energy Take 5 system? Considering that for my surround sound on my new living room. How do you like them?

Yup. Although I'm not an audiophile, the system is fantastic. They go on sale around twice a year for $300 (which is when I got mine), so I'd wait until they go on sale. For $300 they're a steal.

Just a suggestion here...

Since many of you posting here are seeking advice with audio gear, I'm gonna recommend that you all subscribe to one or both of the 2 most popular audio mags for audiophiles.

For the price of an LP, you can get a 2 year subscription (paper rag delivered to your home or electronic version) to either "Stereophile" or "The Absolute Sound".

There are numerous reviews from over the top reference gear to $49 DACs. There are also music reviews and articles that help newbies understand what is actually happening inside all the gear as the signal travels from the source to the ear.

And starting a couple years ago, they both have an "entry level" section which reviews amps, integrateds, DACs, turntables, speakers, and CD players.

I actually like the advertisements the best as it keeps me up on the latest introductions from the manufacturers.

Do it--you won't regret it.

I've also found AudioKarma.com to be great for information and opinions. There are all kinds of resources on that site.

Along with audiokarma there is the forum on AudioGon too.

I find the AudioGon forum to lean toward higher dollar gear, but there are some electrical engineers and audio manufacturers that hang out there a lot and these guys make me look like a novice...I have picked up a great deal of knowledge regarding how things work under the hood of a piece of gear from conversing with these guys.

Most of them are eager to help out as well.

You da man Marco

It's certainly no rush, I'm in no hurry to pull the trigger.

I am curious as to how a cart change will affect the sound

How does it sound? I've heard picture disks aren't too keen on audio and lean more towards artwork. Also concerned about it being, basically, a bootleg not authorized by the band. I keep seeing it at Fry's but can't pull the trigger on a $40 vinyl I'm unsure about.

I got it for $29 at Frys. It isn't amazing quality but you still get the album. You can nitpick at the quality but it is what it is.

And then makes me want to buy all that stuff. I have fallen into that trap with bicycles, homebrew gear and guitars. I ain't got no money left.
