Ordered this today in an 8m length--it needs to reach from the 2 mono amps in the front to the preamp in the stack, which will be off to the right side now.

Any signal degradation with it being that long?
Or Is the length why you need to get reference cables?
That being said I assume all of your cables if not most are reference level stuff. Don't know what those run, but I know 8 meters is a lot of cable! Ol lady would shite a brick!

You can run a low voltage signal for an eight meter distance without an issue. It helps if you run balanced though, due to a little bit higher impedence. The cables are well shielded. I have a few of these already, just in shorter lengths (1, 1.5, 2, and 4 meters).

The Acoustic Zen Matrix Reference II is about my upper limit for interconnect cables. They retail for $700 for the first meter, and then $375 for each additional meter, plus $150 for balanced terminations...so an 8m retails at $3475, but since I have been getting all my cables from Kevin at Upscale Audio (Upland, CA) for years, he discounts them a good bit for me--I got them for $2350 delivered straight from Acoustic Zen. I don't have an issue dropping that on this specific cable as it is a very long run, and a vital link between amp and pre.

I also make it a point to find Kevin when I go to the audio shows and shoot the shite with him for a bit, so that helps a bit ...he is a tube junkie, and always has a good story of someone trashing an old audio console, which he takes, only to find an array of mint condition, rare 1950's vintage German tubes, which were destined for the dump!

That never hurt anybody.... and or the ability to get some good deals on some bad arse equipment!

I need to rearrange my shite. Been promising the wife I was going to hide the cables as much as possible. Trying to get her to roll with a stand since we don't use the fireplace, but I haven't been able to convince her yet. So, for now I have everything that has feet sitting on vibrapods in the entertainment center. I just need to rearrange the DIRECTV, amp and TT to make it look like I'm not in college...

HerbertFest,

There are numerous ways to construct really cool, modern, almost "Scandanavian" looking racks that the SO may dig.

You also can always dress up a regular 3-point rack as well...take a 4 shelf, 3-legged (2 legs in front, one in center rear) for around $150. Then add a granite shelf to each level (4 total)--it actually looks fantastic.

There are a ton of great rack systems out there that people build as well--I am about to put together the thick maple shelves I had built and cut with threaded rod and giant nuts. If you want to see something very similar to what I am building, check out Mapleshade Audio--the rack I am building is not as refined as this one, but comes close--for about 1-3 the cost.

I had a woodwork shop in downtown Covington build and cut the 1" maple shelves to my specs, and then went to Fastenal for the 1.5" threaded rod (Acme threads--they look nicer than regular threads) and matching nuts. All I need to do is clear coat the wood and assemble it. A 5 shelf should run around $6-700 if you do it yourself.

Just google custom audio racks and look at all the images for ideas.

Also...Acoustic Zen has a line of interconnects that are called "Wow"--great cables that can be had new on the street market for around $185 for a 1m RCA.

The outer jacket is a bright white color and it is a pretty substantial cable--it actually adds a nice "high end" look to a rig that may make the SO reconsider her thoughts on exposed cables... check them out...

You can also find them on AudioGon used as well for a bit less.

Made some progress this week...

...all painting, carpentry, and electrical has been finished.

...all lighting (cans and rail) has been installed.

...rear surrounds have been installed in the walls (see pics).

...all the network/cat6 cables and all coax and HDMI has been run from all over the house to a central hub (pic of gear below) in the new cabinets/shelves.

...carpeting was installed today (need to have the door cut--it doesn't fit with the carpet now).

...still need to have Control4 automation installed, Qmotion shades installed, projector installed, and all audio gear moved in.

I have a second turntable, a cosmetically rough Technics SL1210, which I've had at a Baton Rouge shop to repair an issue I figured was tonearm wiring or binding of some kind. They've had it for 4 or 5 months and no action.

I'm a slow learner...I had an SP10 there years ago to replace the start switch. His wife dropped it!

Anybody in area knowledgeable enough to do repairs?

I'm back in business

Amp is back. It was a little harsh sounding running through the first A side I put on. Turns out, I had a big fuzz ball on the point of my stylus. Knocked that bad boy off, and my amp doesn't sound half bad!

I can't wait to hear it in a few days when the caps have had the chance to fully charge! I'm not at home now, but I'll take a picture of it with my very fancy new granite slab (Thanks Marco. And RTR )

When I had to wait to get he right type of cables back, it killed me reading the thread. Glad things are working!
