Get you a pic sharing app... I have called Picup that seems to work fine. I copy the http and paste it in the link for pics.
I always and I mean always preview it..

Don't want to post a white box!

Whether you use an app such as Picup or Imgur, before you hit "upload", be sure to choose the "direct link" format for the image. Once the image uploads, then copy it. Then go to your post and hit the oval "img" button--a pop up box will appear. Paste the "direct link" you just copied into the "Enter a valid URL image" bar. Then hit submit.

You can check to see if it worked before submitting the post by hitting "preview"--if it indeed worked, your image will appear in the preview pane. Then, if OK, hit submit.

honestly, I probably need to start thinning out my gear. I have been picking up a bunch of older stuff over the last year that I have been restoring and can now probably put 8 complete systems together. The new room will have plenty of display shelves and racks for gear that is static, but works, and can be easily rotated into one of the 2 full time set ups.

Some of it is not expensive gear, but I like it and keep it because I saw it go from a dingy, non working piece to one that works and looks like the day it came out of the box new. And there is the time/shipping/research factor--if I couldn't do it, I hunted down some of the top guys for each brand in the US to do the restore (Sony, Marantz, Fisher, McIntosh) to do the restorations...so I know it was done right.

If I have people over, I will sometimes jump from the reference rig over to one of the classic vintage rigs--it's nice when people say "wow, for a 50 year old system, that sounds really damn good"--and it does.

Then there is the Sony ES stuff from the mid to late '80's--that is the gear I used during the high school years, so there is a bit of nostalgia. I sold it all off years ago to move up the chain, but am now rebuilding a complete Sony ES rig (eBay), with a working MiniDisc, CD, DAT, Tuner, pre-amp, and power amp. Just try to find blank MiniDiscs now!!

If I unload a pair of bookshelf speakers, you're first on the list...

Just finished installing the new Sony A1E OLED in the den. I got an Oppo UDP-203 UHD player connected to it.

Watching the first movie through the it...The Martian. I haven't found a panel that could beat my outgoing Pioneer Elite Kuro...until now. The picture coming off this panel is stunning.

Huge thanks for the slab and its delivery

Figured I'd spin some Moody Blues to break it in. It's no Days of Future Passed, but it was left to me by my pops...so special in its own right.

Oppo UDP-203 UHD

There's a guy selling an Oppo 103 for $400 on Craigslist around the corner from me. I'm considering pulling the trigger. Is the 203 all that much of an upgrade vs the 103? And for the same price as a new 203, I can find a handful of used 105's. I think the only real upgrade is the XLR outs, right?

I get lost in the trees with this stuff.

ETA- and I am aware of the feature difference (streaming on the old versions, not the new, possibly to be added later and all that). I'm meaning to ask about the hardware/performance difference.

$400 is steep for a used 103...you can get a new 203 that will play 4K discs for $549.

The 105/205 just have a dedicated output for 2-channel audio and balanced ins and outs for the audio. Not worth the $750 jump in price in my opinion.

Get a 205 and you will be set for 4K.

You can probably already find a used 203 for around $450--check AudioGon.

I pulled the trigger. Now I've got a passable DAC. I'm a preamp away from being cured of upgradeitis (for about the next 18 months), but I'm going to stick with my boring old Marantz AVR for that purpose for now.

Those used 103s seem to have been running around $350 when I periodically was checking. That's an awesome find. Thank you

We're getting there folks...slowly, but making progress.

Th carpenter has one more day...he needs to finish the shelves and the 2 upright supports between the 2 bookcases--There will be 4 shelves between the bookcases-- 7 feet in width, to hold LPs.

The door between the house and the audio room needs to be installed (the one he bought swung the wrong way), and the handle/pulls on the cabinets and drawers installed. Then a few smaller mouldings here and there to cover joints.

The painter comes at 7am Monday and will be here all week. The entire room gets painted again, and all the trim (baseboards, crown mouldings, wainscoting, chair rails, shelves, doors) gets a primer, then a first and second coat. The attic stairs should be almost seamless (and seenless!) as they will be painted the same as the ceiling with a total flat piece of trim surrounding the attic pull down door.

Carpeting will be stone gray to accentuate the ceiling. It will be about 4 weeks for that--it needs to be the last thing installed.

The Control4 automation system gets installed next week, along with the projector mount. The blackout shades got delayed a bit as Q-Motion is headquartered in Florida, and Irma killed their power for a week. Hopefully they will be in in a couple weeks. They should be a quick install.

The couch has been ordered, but it too is back ordered, and could be 6-7 weeks off (I'll be watching for a couple weeks from a portable tailgating chair!)

I also did one last minute upgrade---last week at the CEDIA electronics show in San Diego, Sony announced a brand new native 4K projector, the VPL-VW285ES...for the first time , a true 4K (not an e-shift), HDR, adjustable lens projector is relatively affordable. Up until now, the Sony 4K/HDR projectors started at $15k and went to $60k. This one is $5k and my dealer is discounting that by a good bit. So, for about $1200, I can move from the Epson 5040UB HD E-shift to the new Sony native 4K projector--no brainier here. The Sony projector begins shipping in a couple weeks.

Some updated pics...

Here is the casing we built around the screen assembly--it is now completely hidden from any angle (unless you are standing right under it).

...a little more progress on the cabinets and bookcases...

...and a couple pics of the other sections...

I am really pushing for Halloween to be done--there is a really good game the following weekend that would be great to christen the room with!!

Hmmh.... I'll have to look that up and see what game that is...

That being said, I guess I owe you this for today... "roll tide". I'm just typing it.
Got my slab in today boys.... have it set up with the vibrapods. Always good when the wife says, "what is and where did you get that? Wait I like it!"

Glad to hear it passed the wife acceptance factor!

On top of it's vibration abatement benefits, a granite slab really adds a touch of elegance when placed under any piece of audio gear.

I'm moving into a small apartment in the cbd and am trying to decide what I should do with my audio set up. The living room is an open layout, but the area I'll be putting my tv and couch and stereo is 14x15 yes it's small.
I have to say I'm 50/50 between music and movies so that's where I'm having trouble deciding what to go with. I have a pair of Paradigm Trinity bookshelf speakers that need to be repaired. Should I just repair them and get a center speaker and call it a day or would a sound bar be better for the small size of the room?

Also, don't want anything with a big subwoofer that will piss off my neighbors. But im not sure if the trinity w/ center speaker set up will be enough in the low range.

(Forgive my lack of audio vocab, I'm not familiar with all the terms, any responses are appreciated, just try to dumb down the answers if you go into detail.)
