Update on audio room...

I am moving pretty quickly on this project. The contractors have been over twice in the last 10 days to get the planning done as well as Rich from Uptown Audio in Metairie. The cabinets and book cases for the built-ins on the back wall and marble countertop have been ordered (5-6 week build/turnaround time).

I believe the actual construction/building phase will start at the end of next week.

I had all the existing drywall taken out yesterday (it's a lot easier to run Romex and conduits for wiring with open walls). The white puffy stuff you see between the studs is BIB (Blown-In-Blanket) insulation that I had put in the garage when the house was built in 2003 and that is staying in.

The small window is coming out and all garage door tracks and motors are coming out as well. Those Home Depot fluorescent lights on the ceiling are getting the boot too, along with the Bose 301 speakers in the top corners above the garage doors!

When I am done, you will never know it was a garage!

Like a kid in a candy store.

Jamming the vandys right now. Question for you or anyone else with ideas. I finally got around to putting the vandys on the stands. I picked up some of the felt "movers/sliders" to put under the spikes on the stands so I can move them appropriately for listening. Not gonna work. B/w the speakers and the stands themselves (filled with sand) they poke through.

Any ideas on things to put so the spikes don't go through? I'm trying to keep them as small as possible. The small ones may not work though... I did buy the heavy duty ones too.

Edit to bump: also I've found some things on several sites...

Sonic saucers: seem be bout the size of a quarter which is fine but I need to be able to move the speakers to their listening position. So I need to be able to put some felt underneath them as well.

Target audio spike shoes: these seem to be a bit bigger.

There are others as well. Just two to the ones I've found.

I'm on a budget, but I am looking at getting a uturn, probably the mid tier model.
Any thoughts on these?

The attached pre-amp seems convenient for me at this point. Would you recommend it?

I can't speak for the preamp, but I have the UTurn Orbit Plus and really enjoy it. Its a great little table.

On now...

The Radiators--"Snafu--Live from Tipitina's--10/31/91"...croaker Records, CD, 1992.

A classic Halloween Rads show with tomfoolery and greasy fish jams!

This CD is tough to find...if you ever come across one in a used CD bin, grab it.

I have that one on CD, bought it off their website years ago.

I figured the Rads would be a great listen after 4 days of silence...

Storage...

Since I quit fooling myself that I am not going to buy a lot of LPs, I am building (having built) a solution that will not only hold all my current LPs, but something that should keep me good for the next 15 years or so.

It will also have abundant storage for all other things that are audio related.

The large open space in the middle will have (5) 8' shelves built between the bookcases (9' high).

The total width is 12'.

That's gonna look good.

Marco, not sure if you saw my previous post.... need something under my spikes to protect my floors and will allow me to move the speakers to their listening position. I've seen several brands. The saucers on audioadvisor and the target audio spike feet on music direct. Figured I'd just add felt to the bottom to move the speakers.

I've got it rigged right now, but want a permanent solution so I can get the vandys dialed in.

Just add felt--use an Xacto knife to cut the circles out of a sheet of felt and then super glue them to the bottom of the disc.

You may also research other foot options that may screw into the bottom--most speakers use a standard screw/shaft size for the spiked feet or rubber nodule feet...if the felt doesn't work, but it should. I did it with a set of Nordost Sure-foot feet.

Sweet thanks man!

That's what I figured, I just wanted to double check before I did it.

Appreciate it as always
