I hate the skinny jean hipsters like Stapleton and sturgill. It's about time for Luke Bryan to whip their arse and show them what true country is

Eric Church is better than shite like Florida Georgia line and Luke Bryan but he’s still cringey as it gets. How anyone can put him in the same category as Stapleton, Simpson and Isbell, etc, I’ll never understand.

Most country acts are cringey at times. Even someone like Kenny Chesney who has had tons of hits, you can bank on at least 3-5 songs on each album being overly cheesy and just pure crap. Those don't get the radio play, and probably not played much in concert, but its the same for all of them. Even some of the classics like Alan Jackson or Garth Brooks have had some awful songs.

That being said, Eric Church's older stuff was great. I haven't bought any of his albums past Chief, but the first three were great. And from what friends have told me about his concerts, they are very entertaining and he puts on a great show.

I like Stapleton but I feel like he's a one-trick pony. It all starts to sound alike after a while.

IMO Sturgill is in another class. More versatile and a better songwriter all around. Metamodern Sounds was the best country album in the last 10 years.

I enjoy him but I do think he is a little overrated.

If I have to listen to new country I’d much rather Eric Church. I think he’s bad arse.

Chris has grown on me. And I've been a Jason Isbell's fan for a long time (and I don't really consider him "country").

I just can't get into Sturgill Simpson. I've tried, I bought "Sailor's Guide to Earth" but it just doesn't appeal to me.

Have you tried High Top Mountain or Meta modern sounds in country music?

Sailers guide to earth isn’t Sturgill’s bread and butter. I personally like it but he straight up said he was probably going to lose some fans for making that album. His first 2 albums are incredible though

As for Stapleton, traveler was a masterpiece....the “From A Room” albums were hit or miss. The two albums he made with the steeldrivers were incredible. Bottom line is I’d rather listen to a shitty Stapleton song than whatever bubble gum pop country is getting pushed on radio.

About as good of a write up you could give to Stapleton.

And I agree with people above that I prefer his bluesy stuff like, especially I Was Wrong

I get bored with CS. I find most of his stuff is too slow. And I wanted to like him as I am a big fan of the “outlaw country” of yesteryear. It just doesn’t do it for me...I do enjoy Sturgill

This. It's not bad, it's just boring. His music doesn't really invoke any emotion from me, with the exception of "Whiskey and You". Will listen to him over Isbell though.

I don’t find either From A Room albums nearly on the same level as Traveller, but still think hes way above Eric Church. Record Year was a really good song but he has way more misses than hits imo.

If "I Was Wrong" "Broken Halos" "Parachute" " Midnight Train to Memphis" "Tennessee Whiskey" "Either Way" "Nobody to Blame" don't invoke any emotion then you really need to check your pulse.

They are very different. I was not a huge fan of sailors and I've been huge on Sturgill since the beginning.

Listen to both and I guarantee you will have a different opinion.
