Been awhile since last discussed and I believe there are a few posters on here with insight, are they reopening or is Chimes expanding into that area?

They have reopened, but they aren't hosting that many shows, and the shows they are doing haven't been that great.

They're also charging bands to book shows there, and they're charging A LOT. They don't seem to be scouting touring acts like they used to either. It's a real waste of the space.

It's sad. Southside is charging bands up front, too. There's really no open venues in BR anymore for bands to start building a following. While Chelsea's is killing it with some of the established guys in the scene, it feels like the ladder is being pulled up behind them.

Man that sucks. Turnpike troubadours at the varsity was one of my favorite shows ever.

The Varsity needs to be alive and kicking.

Chelsea’s is doing a great job of providing a space for BR bands actually. 30 year old boomers is playing a Friday night honky tonk show this month.

They’ve paired a lot of BR bands with national acts and in doing so have expanded their audience in town. They are definitely committed to building the local scene. They get it.

Welp, sounds like a short lived return of the Varsity

All the local bands are from the same KLSU clique, for the most part.

Bands outside of this clique or who weren’t already well established prior to Covid are pretty screwed. Chelsea’s doesn’t take rookies, nor should they. Bands can’t cut their teeth at Southside or elsewhere (mid city ballroom is booking very few shows), so it’s creating a bottleneck for new original bands.

I just posted that 30 year old boomers (a relatively newer band) is headlining Chelsea’s on a Friday night. They support the BR music scene whether you want to believe that or not

Sad.

I remember when a band could always find a place to play... even if it was "Phil Brady's"...

The Caterie was always an option...

Saw some friends play inside CHIMES... But the Varsity is a great venue

Literally any band can play Phil Brady’s in BR.

I've played all of them back in the '80's and '90's. The Chimes had a postage stamp size stage set up by the stairs to the office. I played may a Monday/Tuesday there.

We held down the Thursday slot at The Caterie for a long time...never a dull moment there.

I'm glad Brady's is still doing the Brady's thing. I know Rondo Hatten plays at Curbside Burgers the first Saturday of every month, but I have no idea what that's like since I live 2400 miles away. Great band! Go check 'em out.

What a sad day if so!

The varsity is a classic venue. Shame on BR for allowing this to happen and not preserving it. They preserve all kinds of bs but can’t do this?
