New System of a Down song
I’m always behind on finding new music. Anyone have some good rock n roll bands or songs?

South of Eden - The Talk
Dirty Honey - Scars
Rival Sons - Do Your Worst
True Villains - Blood in the Water
A little shameless self promotion here:
Bayou Bullets - Light in the Attic
And since y’all have been patient in the past, here’s something unreleased that I am working on:
Okay, Boomhaur - Alex Box Lights

Dude, how do you know about all these bands? Those are all great songs and I’ve never heard of them. Thank you for this. Hoping these are on Tidal. Either way, I’m digging the sound. This is the best reply I’ve ever had on TD(granted, as a poster I suck).
Also-is that you on vocals on that song? I can tell you’re a musician w/ talent. Any recommendations on the best way to put chords, chord progressions, solos into your songwriting? I’m more of a rhythm guy, haven’t put in the time to be a lead or anything close. I’ve written songs I think IMO at the very least doesn’t suck. I just can’t put music to them. It’s like a block or something. I have the utmost respect for songwriters who write and put music behind it. I can play chords and do some simple solo stuff as a stand-alone, and I can write at least what I think is decent lyrics, but I cannot put it together at all. It’s like a huge block. Any recommendations? I don’t have a singing voice worth a shite, but I want to be able to put a song together. I really appreciate the recommendations.

Lords of Black, from Spain. Lead singer Ronnie Romero sang with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow revival a couple of years ago, to give you an idea of his esteem.
New album, their fourth, dropped in September.
Dying To Live Again

I've looked and got tired of looking. Good modern music is like digging in an infinite sandbox looking for loose change. It's there, but it's not worth the effort.

I saw True Villains open up for Steel Panther back in 2019.
The other 3 were recommended to me by the lead singer of my band (he sang the bullets song).
Once you find something good, spotify and youtube can help you find similar artists.

I sang the Boomhaur one. Just backup vocals on the bullets song.

Most of my songs are pretty simple structure wise. It’s a lot of 1, 5, 7 or 4 chord songs. Typically, I have an intro riff, 2 or 3 riffs for the verse, a chorus riff, and a bridge that’s often a reprisal of sorts of the intro. Coming out of the bridge is either a chorus to the end or one more verse and chorus. The guitar solo is usually either in the bridge, replacing a verse, or little short solos are in the verse riff after the chorus but before vocals start.

For me, I struggle to write music if the lyrics came first. So, I tend to write the music first and then come up with lyrics that fit it. I start humming along with a melody that works until words come to mind and then slowly add more and more until I have something that works.
As for playing leads, I’m a rhythm player, so all of the “leads” in the second song I linked are mostly just texture with no real solos. Why? Cause I can’t play them

Some more good ones:
Jade Bird - Headstart
Actually heard her on FM radio for the first time. They played one of her songs on Alt 92.3 to advertise a show where she was opening up for Haim in New Orleans.
Paralandra - Love Will Win
I saw Paralandra open up for Yngwei Malmsteen at the Varsity a couple years ago.
The Black Moods - Sunshine
I actually played a show with the Black Moods at the House of Blues in New Orleans a couple years ago. We were the local opener, they were the second touring band behind Adelitas Way who was the headliner.
Reignwolf - Over & Over
Found this band as a recommendation on YouTube when I was listening to a bunch of Jack White stuff.
Four Years Strong - Brain Pain
A friend turned me on to this band, took a flyer on buying an album at FYE and loved it. Saw them at the Warped Tour a couple years ago, and I was supposed to see them again last year but Covid canceled the show.
Assuming We Survive - Too Close
Heard this band for the first time at the warped tour. Got to see them open up for Sum 41 not too long after.
Magnolia Bayou - Preachin’ Blues
Found out about them when playing a show in Gulfport. A mutual fan told us we needed to get together and play a show. We’ve tried at least three different times, and each time it’s gotten canceled. Covid hasn’t helped. They’re in the same Mississippi scene as bands like Bishop Gunn.

Okay, Boomhaur - Alex Box Lights
So long as we're doing the shameless self-promotion thang, here's a track from my band's most recent release:
The Moderns - Again
We're just starting our next album. Both the guitarist/lead vocalist/BL and the drummer are more or less retired now, so they have plenty of time on their hands, hopefully it wont take the nearly 3 years the last one did
Keep the links coming, kb, this stuff is all pretty good. It's a shame this kind of music is virtually nonexistent in the mainstream these days, but it may be a good thing for creativity to be underground in the long run.

Good stuff! At first, I thought it sounded like some Blink 182, but once the vocals and other guitars kicked in, I got a real Springsteen vibe.

The lead guitarist from this band bought a Bassman from me a couple months ago, so I feel I should give them a plug...
