What band did you play in, where did you gig, what / when did you play? Do you still gig?

My band was Honey Blonde and traveled around playing in the late 90’s and 2000’s. We had a very good drummer and Bass player, two female vocalists (one was rhythm guitar, the other was mandolin) and myself on electric and vocals so we sang a lot of 3 part harmonies. Played about three nights a week through undergrad and even grad school.

We traveled and played bham, Memphis, Starkville, Auburn and other towns but our favorite out of town gigs were in BR playing Chelsea’s old location and sometimes at the Varsity. Absolutely loved the people there and still have friends from there to this day.

Still play the bars and private events but only about three or four times a month due to family and work.

I remember Honey Blonde well. Makes me want to see if I can find some old tunes on YouTube or somewhere.

I started playing instruments coherently when I was 10. Guitar had always interested me but I started with drums. A close family member was also a musician and bought me a brand new Pearl Export select 5 piece kit and zildjian cymbals. That grew to an 8 piece.

Moved around a lot and was kinda alienated by that. So I got into interestibg music young, and also got into a lot of trouble at the time. My best friend at the time had two older brothers who were in their early 20s at the time and very into metal. They also were into industrial metal, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the misfits, etc. Finding out about music pre-internet and stealing from and smoking their stash was a great coming of age time.

I started playing guitar as well as drums at 12 and with that bass too. Got a Les Paul standard and a thunderbird. Peavey 5150 amp. Another friend I was raised with ended up being a great drummer. My other two closest friends were all serious guitar players too. All 14 & 15 spending any and all money on amp heads and Vintage 30 cabs, quality guitars, hydraulic drum heads, strings, pedals, brick weed, etc.

Cassette tapes for 4 tracks...writing songs, bringing things to life. Spending time with friends. I miss those years so much. Life was still real. All those people I just mentioned aside from myself and 1 other are either dead or locked up doing decades.

Thats how I got my start into it all. I still play to this day, was recording and attempting to mix all day today. That's the only time I feel at home anymore. Lately I've been on a solo project. Micing up and playing drums, guitar and bass, mixing etc. I wont be doing the mastering, I cant do that shite.

My brother works for Peavey and Eddie came on site and worked closely with that 5150 amp. It’s a beast.

It's been my travel go-to. That with the combo of a triple rectifier is what I like to layer with for the most part when recording. It's always going to be a tool for metal.

I played in a wedding/bar band in my 17-23 years. Played mostly old soul/dance music with some limited swamp pop mixed in.

As it happens, when you play the same songs for 80 dates a year, shite gets old quick. Especially as most of it wasn't very challenging to play.

I played trumpet in the college marching band and played trumpet in a reggae hip/hop metal band called Syllable Seven.

I still gig on guitar In Bayou Bullets, the band I helped start right after college. We actually have our last show for a few months tonight in Metairie at the Spotlight Bar & Grill. Y’all music board peeps should come out and bask in the glow of my glorious pedal board: the Spruce Goose

I also recently started a pop punk cover band band called Okay, Boomhauer which should be ready for gigs soon. I’m only singing in that one.

I played drums full-time from 18-24. I started hanging around the Phil Brady's blues scene which led to me touring for a few years with Larry Garner. When not on the road, i freelanced and played with anyone that would hire me.
My last full-time gig was with Orphan Annie, but I left after I got engaged and was burned out. My kit for that entire time was basically this set-up:

I rarely gig these days ( I'm 30 now), but I still play/record in my home studio.

My band in college (late 1980s) was a pop/country/variety band called Natchez Trace based in northwest Louisiana. No touring, we were in college, so bar gigs, private events, frat parties. All five of us were frat boys and from four different fraternities so we had the Greek angle covered. I played lead guitar and sang as little as I could get away with. We've actually talked about a reunion show on some homecoming weekend at our alma mater but you know how talk often never goes beyond just that. Plus our keyboard player succumbed to cancer a few years ago. Then again, we probably should make one last gig happen for that very reason.

I didn’t play in the marching band but I will say this, The Golden Band from Tigerland is by far my favorite college band. Love horns in a stage band also. We don’t have much of that in North MS. Wish we did.

Oh yes. The reason I came to Ole Miss was the beautiful ladies dancing on the tables at The Gin to Super Tyrone.

So damn jealous. I would love to start one around here but there isn’t enough interest both from musicians or venues. Makes me miss Baton Rouge

I used to be apart of my church band. It was enjoyable. I played bass, as well as some vocals, too. ( I sung on all the songs where we decided not to include bass, or the bass line was too complex for me to learn in time.) I was a super duper amateur. Luckily in the church setting, you can get away with being a terrible musician alot of times.

I really only did it for fun. I never had any desire to actually take it very seriously. I started playing as I was just looking to pick up another hobby besides video games. YouTube was my best friend. Now I haven't touched the instrument in a couple of years now. I met with a guy who is a real bass musician, and that basically made me quit all together. Discouraged the shite out of me
