I have a '96 American Strat and a '94 MIJ (Fujigen) Strat. One will stay, one will go. The American has a maple fret board and Lace Sensor pups. The MIJ has a Rosewood fret board. I love the feel of the MIJ but prefer the sound of the American. I think the sound choice is mostly due to the pick ups. The feel could be due to the strings on the MIJ. Not sure whats on it, it's on loan from a friend who will sell it to me. Based on this limited information, what would you do? Any advice? Will the Lace Sensors "fit" on a MIJ? I've been told some parts aren't interchangeable on the two guitars. TIA.

I think you should be able to swap pickups, pots and switches pretty easily.
Not sure if the entire pickguard will swap directly. That would be the easiest.
I think I would want to keep the MIJ though.

Thanks for the reply auggie, can you tell me why? It's the most voted for everywhere I ask. Appreciate the input.

Like you said yourself, "it feels better".
It's probably slightly lower weight too. Most likely a basswood body.
The MIJ stuff is pretty high quality.

I have a MIJ Telecaster and I think they are the highest quality.

But a lot of the differences in the country of origin, and the build specs, is just personal preference.

You can move the pickups and harness from the MIA to the MIJ without issues. You can move just the pickups, but I'd recommend moving the entire assembly in that the MIA should have better CTS pots.

90s MIJ Fujigen will have either Maxon pots (not bad but not as good as CTS) or Alpha pots (good all the way on or all the way off but not a lot of function or "colors" from 2 to 9).

Yeah swap the whole pickguard. Don’t think it’s an issue. Unless there are crazy mods made to the 5 way switch or pots.

Get rid of both and buy a 95 rosewood MIA strat in your favorite color.

I've only owned 1 MIJ Strat, It was a Squier E-series. I think it was an 87 model. Fantastic guitar, but I'm not a Strat guy. It sold very fast.
I think I noticed some differences in the pickguard itself, between other Strats. Screw locations and things like that.
