In studio one, how do I set it to give me 8 clicks before it starts recording? I always feel like I’m scrambling between when I press play to get my instrument in the right position to track a take.

Why don't you just let it roll? It ain't like you're having to pay for tape, like we did in the old days. Let the click run and start as many times as you need to get it right.

I'm curious what his recording setup is too. It sounds like he's recording on a tin can. Bandcamp app would be a world of improvement.

It’s an anxiety thing. It also makes it a little more difficult in editing. I know it’s an option because I’ve seen it done.

That's why you let it roll, in a bit, a lot of things can happen..

So I originally got a presonus mixing board with 16 channels and fought with it for weeks til I found a forum post saying to just buy something different so now I have a focusrite scarlet with 8 channels but when I plugged it up to my MacBook everything slows to a crawl

Not sure if I should get another MacBook Pro or get a desktop to just leave hooked to it

I was using a snowball before

ETA: I hate the clicks I just let tape roll

Sounds like a latency issue. From what I have heard, latency issues ae not from focusrite stuff, but probably from your computer.
It takes a pretty bad arse computer to record well.

My drummer has a MacBook Pro we’re gonna try and we’re gonna stack focusrites to get enough channels

If that doesn’t work ima go buy a pc desktop to be a dedicated recording rig

That's why I like the Tascam units for songwriters. 250 bucks, and you can get your songs down.

Can you record drums on those? That’s the main reason I need so many inputs

It's always a matter of using what you have, but you can use a mixer, and put your drums on 1 or two tracks.
For song demos, you don't need much.
Are you trying to demo a song, or make a record?
Different things.
For a song demo, you don't need much besides a click track.
