This became sort of a running joke over Christmas. Listening to Sirius Christmas channels and some person/ band would have a version of a Carrol or song ...never heard of the group. So wife would Google them...and many sold 20-30 million albums world wide. Bert Kamfert (sp?) Is the one i particularly remember

Robbie Williams has sold over 77 million albums. Guy is the UKs best selling solo artist ever, can sell out stadiums in Europe, Australia, South Africa, and Mexico - received very little airplay in the US except for Millennium, Angels, and Feel

It was a massive seller, one of the most popular albums of the early 70's. I can see a non-boomer or non gen-x not knowing about it, but it's far from being a secret hit. Every girl of album buying age had this album in he early 70's.

For folks under a certain age, it might be surprising that the Flashdance soundtrack is so high on the charts - like in Boston - Boston or Britney Spears - Oops! ... I Did It Again territory in claimed sales.
It was a cultural phenomenon and was everywhere for a brief period. It was the album that first* moved Michael Jackson's Thriller out of the #1 spot after its initial run in 1983 (something that even Def Leppard's Pyromania had been unable to do, setting the record that still stands for most weeks at #2 without ever reaching #1).
*Side note - the album that ended Thriller's final big run as the #1 album was another soundtrack - Footloose.

What about Squeeze 45s and Under? I mean, it was super popular in my college crowd, but Squeeze really didn't do much on American radio. Tempted reached 46 on the US charts, and Black Coffee in Bed didn't break 100.
