In a year that has seen the most popular rap sink to all new lows in boorish behavior, lack of meaningful message, and assembly line copycat fodder, a few albums stood out (many of them from the Chicago scene). One, though, really rose above the rest in my opinion:
Saba Care For Me
It's a gem of a concept album built around an autobiographical relationship with and death of his cousin in a typically meaningless Chicago subway squabble over a coat.
My other pick was actually an EP: boygenius
Other albums I listened to a lot this year:

Kacey Musgraves
Lucy Dacus
Carseat Head Rest (yes, it was a rerelease of an old album, but I loved it).

Uhhhhh. The new Pinegrove came out and they’re back together. His restorative measures with the girl have been met, allowing the album to be released.
Album is called Skylight. It’s not as good as Cardinal, but it’s good.

I've been super slack on the new muzak front this year. I started listening to podcasts, and one can't listen to both podcasts and music simultaneously.
Anyway, I've got 15 hours of driving time coming up during the holidays, so I plan to get my cram on. This thread will be a helpful resource.
So far I'm going with:
Lykke Li -- so sad so sexy
Marshmello -- Joytime II
AWOLNATION -- here come the runts
Miguel -- War and Leisure (technically 2017, but right at the edge so I'm counting it)
Dr. Dlog -- critical equation
Cudi + Kanye
Lord Huron -- vide noir
Pusha T -- Daytona

Really? I thought Rats was the best song on the album. Miamsa is a nice instrumental. Faith is meh, Witch Image is really good and will probably be a single. Dance Macabre is decent. It’s my AOTY though with APC close behind.
