I just got a Kyser.I've used it on a couple of songs and it changes the tone of course. It feels weird. Not as much room for my Left hand.

Do y'all use them on certain songs?

If you want to play along with songs that use them, you almost have to. And if you don't, you'll have to barre a lot with your index finger.

I got a G7th early on and have been happy with it. I do get that it changes the feel - it's not just "moving" the nut - it changes the angle of the strings, effectively shortens the scale, etc. I would say pick a song you like that uses a capo. Get a lot of reps with that song and it may change the way you feel about it.

I have to use one for almost every song at church, and have huge hands. Try putting the capo on the fretboard at an angle, where it has just enough pressure to fret the high E-string, huge difference.

Also, don't let it overhang the bottom of the fretboard. My Kyser has plenty of grip to fret the high e by just barely catching the string.

My favorite capo for over 20 years now is the Shubb's original. You can adjust the clamp tension via a screw to perfectly mimic your barre finger pressure, meaning you don't face intonation woes or frets eaten alive (very $$$ to fix) via too hard of a clamping capo, or flubbed notes by a capo that doesn't squeeze tight enough. It's also physically small and bulletproof durable. I cannot recommend the Shubb's unit more highly for too many reasons.

Thanks for the responses.I guess I'll have to get used to it.

I have large hands too,so I'll just have to work with it.

Thanks.

this for me too

I had been using a Victor for this very reason and a Shubb before that and both are good, but have recently gone to the G7 and it's ease has me won over also. The Kyser was just to big for me; however it's also real easy to move around and throw on and lots of people love them. Got in the way on high-e side of neck, taking up valuable real estate.

Like other guy also used a capo frequently when playing in church and having to change keys at a moments notice. Also find it nice to move around when there's several guitars and everyone's playing the same thing. And like also posted some songs are written with one and sound better (more correct) that way.

I’ve been using Shubb for 25yrs and love it for my acoustics. However I’m hunting a good capo for my tele that will allow me to play leads without pulling the strings out of place.

We call em cheaters

I use one on damn near every song when playing acoustic shows, and they're also very useful in open tunings

I have a couple of capos, and have never used one.

For myself..the only purpose is maybe layering on some recording? I think about it, but still haven't gone there yet.

I see what y'all are talking about now.

I've used it playing "Bridge Over Troubled Water",3rd Fret Capo, and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald",Capo 2nd Fret, and I can definitely hear the difference.

Thanks for all the input.
