Not that impressed. I'd only want to see Steve Miller Band, Beck, and Cage the Elephant

some scheduling nuggets:

On opening day at the Gentilly Stage, Sturgill Simpson will follow Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real and locals Jon Cleary and Eric Lindell. That’s worthy of spending the day camped out at Gentilly.

On the second Friday, Beck will top the Acura Stage, preceded by Jason Isbell, Tank & the Bangas, Darcy Malone & the Tangle, and Motel Radio.

That same day, the Gentilly Stage will feature the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, then Aaron Neville, then Sheryl Crow. (The Sheryl Crow/Beck scheduling conflict will be tough for some folks.)

The second Saturday’s closing acts are Aerosmith at Acura, Anita Baker at Congo Square, Delbert McClinton at the Blues Tent and Dianne Reeves in the Jazz Tent. Cage the Elephant tops Gentilly, preceded by the Revivalists, Better Than Ezra, Boyfriend, Givers and Stoop Kids.

Byrne will headline the Gentilly Stage on the first Sunday, preceded by New Orleans native and "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" bandleader Jon Batiste, who will front the late soul singer Sharon Jones' band, the Dap-Kings.

Acura’s finale features Anders Osborne, Galactic, Jack White and finally Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, who have closed out Acura every year since 2013 in the Neville Brothers’ old slot.

That is all very good news, doesn't seem like i'll have as many scheduling conflicts as usually. And may actually make it out opening Friday in that case.

I agree with all the other fests not being as good

But I mean I wouldn't consider Geriatric Fest, I mean Jazz Fest, to be killing it right now either.

I mean I'm as excited as the next guy for Sting, Aerosmith and Lionel Ritche, but come on

Nobody is excited for that crap...what we are excited for is all the awesome smaller acts, random last minute pairings, food and general old school relaxed attitude.

The best thing about jazzfest, that no other festival comes close to touching, is the 10 plus days of music in clubs around the city.

ACL does this too in Austin. I'm guessing so do plenty of other festivals. This is another weird local New Orleans talking point that isn't accurate.

The food is what makes Jazz Fest stand out. You won't find food that awesome at other festivals. It feels like half the people at Jazz Fest just spend most of the day stuffing their faces at all the different booths and they all appear to be happy while doing that.

Chicago does it with Lollapalooza too

But thats always the arguing point of why "omg Jazzfest is the best"

Jazz Fest is massively overrated on here. Many other better festivals out there. And lol at the "but all the club shows" line

Hahahahah, you just compared the 3 or 4 late night shows at hangout to what happens during jazzfest? Troll away.

Again, I just don't think this is accurate. ACL alone has tons of legit restaurants and food trucks presented at the festival. I'm sure other festivals do too. Actually, Voodoo had arguably better and more modern food options this year than jazzfest has. It's just another outdated talking point

Relax, Clooney. Do us all a favor and don’t go to the fairgrounds this year so the rest of us can enjoy ourselves getting sunburned, drunk, and buying overpriced soft shell crab poor boys

Do all of these cities have no curfew as well? Cause at Jazzfest, if you have the stamina, you can see about 18 hours of music daily. Chicago I think has like a 2 am bar curfew, not sure about Austin. Add in the sheer number of music venues in the city, the range of good food in and outside of the festival and its pretty damn hard to beat if you like this kind of music.

ETA: also, aren't most other two-week music festivals, the same lineup both weekends?

Exactly

Maybe everyone doesn't want to see Stanton Moore and Dumpstafunk and Dirty Dozen and Anders Osbourne for the 10th year in a row at 3 am

If you like blues/funk/soul/brass band etc sure Jazzfest is great. But that's pretty much all you're going to get, at the fest and the aftershows

I just can't stand the two weekend bullshite. I live in Lafayette. I'm not buying a weekend pass, driving back, and then doing it again the next week. If it were all a weekend, let's say Thur-Sun, this would be awesome. Artists I like being spread out this much frickin blows.
