When I was a teenager in the early to mid 2000’s, I really started getting into the current hard rock bands of that time. Before that, I had had a fairly eclectic taste in music. My older sister introduced me to more modern rock and I got hooked. Bands like Disturbed, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Sevendust, Drowning Pool, etc.

I also listened to a lot of Christian rock bands like 12 Stones, Pillar, Skillet, etc. who were actually great hard rock bands despite what people might think of a “Christian” rock band.

If you were a fan of this music during this era, who were some of your favorite bands?

Seether. Disclaimer II and Karma and Effect were two solid albums.

I just saw they put an album out in 2020. Their new stuff has fallen off a bit but I'll have to check it out.

I wouldn't call it all "Nu-metal", but that genre certainly thrived in the late 90's early 00's.

Early 2000's hard rock music has not aged well IMO. System of a Down is one of the few exceptions.

I always referred to these bands as post grunge.

I used to listen to this stuff all the time back in the day, but it has definitely aged worse than nearly any other genre of music.

That Godsmack band was such an Alice in Chains wannabe and ripoff that I couldn't take them seriously.

Even taking their band name from an AIC song i mean..come on.

Not remotely hard rock but I've listened to "Baltimore Blues #1" more than I can count. Think the lead singer is married to Vanessa Carlton.

Edit: System of a Down is the only major band from this genre worth a shite IMO
