Funny because I think you're both right. There's a lot of crossover.
He's right in that this was club music in the 80s. He's wrong on everything else.

Roll your eyes all you want, but if you're going to act like a jerk, you should expect expect the same in return...

I just think it's odd that a goth kid would make a top anything list and include so much non-goth.
Then you don't know the 90s goth kids at all. 80% of this list is their main rotation of music, and it is pretty much essential to their musical identity.

That first list of albums is a nice mixture of Music. Goth, Punk, Alternative, New Wave, Pop etc..
The list was not made by individuals (not a goth Kid) but rather a large poll with over 50,000 votes.
Sorry (Not Really) it didn’t include Heavy Metal, Hair, or Hip Hop

Slicing Up Eyeballs celebrates the legacy of ’80s college, modern and indie rock, the music — once relegated to campus radio, pioneering commercial stations like San Diego’s 91X and the Sunday night ghetto of MTV’s “120 Minutes” — that paved the way for Nirvana and the alternative revolution.

Or jazz or blues or prog or or or.
It's a very niche list for optimal fart-sniffing.

While most of the list isn't goth music, it is among the most common music goth people have been listening to since.

This is what Alexa fails to grasp. 90s goths for the most part didn't listen to "goth music." This list is mostly what they listened to, and it is defining of their culture. "Goth music" did indeed exist, and while it was a part of their musical rotation it was not the dominant one. It was a fraction in reality.

quote:This is even more interesting because the kids I would have considered goth would really not like being lumped in with, music wise, the people listening to 80's college charts.

These two girls are listening to 90% of that list without a doubt.
