I’d have to say those two years are pretty dang close in great songs.
49. Let The Music Play - Shannon
This gives 84 a slight edge

I would say any year from the late 60's to early 70's, with 1971 being damn strong.
And of course, I was 13.
I wasn’t born yet, but I feel like you could pick any year 1967-1977.

I recently watched a video that stated from the ages 13 to 16 is when one will pick a most memorable year of music.
That era of one's life is supposedly the most impressionable musically, regardless of genre, where you remember 90% of the songs fondly.

1989
Disintegration
Pretty Hate Machine
Doolittle
Bleach
That enough right there, then...
13 Songs
Sonic Temple
Paul's Boutique
The Stone Rose's
Mother's Milk
On Fire
Technique
Louder Than Love
The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste
Automatic
As well as a bunch of top 40 I'm not bothering to post.

quote:No offense but you're my age and that is a ton of boring music. Except for ZzTop, Thompson Twins, and Wang Chung I'd switch the channel on all of these songs.
If you disagree, what year in your opinion is better and why?

so many classics released in this year
Not to nit pick, but a few of these are from 1983

Definitely 1989!! It’s on par with 1987 for Disintegration alone. Then you got Pretty Hate Machine, Technique etc…
But 1987 will always be top for me not just for album releases but because this was the year I experienced The Cure live for the first time on the Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me Tour and many other reasons music was memorable in 87

That is completely true. The best times of most of our childhood are in that age range (first kiss or even sex, fun with your friends, etc..).
It's almost impossible to not have the music that was popular at that time in your life to not be your favorite. When you hear certain songs you automatically think about the good ole days....

But not always the case. We liked some of the music that was popular during our high school years, but we were mainly into the music that came out 15-25 years prior.

incorrect.

1984 was a confluence of traditional rock, hair metal, and new wave. Sprinkle in some pop standards and classic soundtracks and you have a very, very strong argument.
And this isn’t even accounting for country artists like George Strait.

Wait... how does a top 100 of 1984 not include a masterpiece of a song like Don Henley's The Boys of Summer.
