Whelp that's disappointing, but not surprising at all.

Ruby Hill Park is weak as frick and I hope that's not official. I was hoping they would relocate to Wash or Cheeseman Park or somehow Sloans Lake.

It's hard to believe that there are still delusional phish phans on this board claiming that trey Anastasio is a better guitar player than jon gutwillig

It always gives me a good laugh though.

the first. trey is just playing basic chords and looping different notes. Same thing he always does. I don't see how this is at all original or mind blowing.

quote:

LINK

the second link. pretty okay solo. old school, rhytmic, but still plays a few notes and goes back into basic chords. all in all only about 20 seconds of solo. not even remotely close to gutwillig level

quote:

pretty much sounds exactly like the solo above ^. lack originality. like trey's other solos you posted, he diddles on the wah peddle, holds a few random notes, then goes back to the basic chords, then goes back to playing a bunch of random notes that are just jumbled together, finally he dips back into Izabella after about a 30 second "solo". he really looks like he just came off a heroin bender. fishman and page are constantly bailing trey out in this sequence IMO. It's a good psychedelic riff though.

quote:

LINK

fourth link. just the same cookie cutter down with the disease jam trey plays over and over. nothing creative to see here.

quote:

LINK

fifth untitled link you posted. probably my favorite of what you posted thus far. love that 98 prague show. trey finally showing some creativity, different hammer ons for once.
however if these best links you can muster up for trey.

quote:

LINK

sixth link. just cookie cutter jams. seriously? a cookie cutter lama into 2001 a space odyssey

quote:

LINK

seventh link. more of those patented directionless trey hammer ons and pull offs. his style echoes someone that is just good enough to play with mike and page. it's desperation. he'll play a few good notes then go back into the cookie cutter while page and mike bail him out. phish really needs to find a better guitarist. however, he is serviceable since the rest of the band is spectacular. that's pretty pathetic if this all you have to put up against barber.

now on to barber solos and jams (and I don't have to go back 20 years to find them)

8/27/2005 Aceetobee Jam 6:20 > and 18:30>

10/30/2007 Mulberry's Dream 8:50 > heats up at 10:30 mark

04/13/2003 Digital Buddha > Shelby Rose start at 11:30 of Digital Buddha then rips into shelby

12-12-2008 Helicopters 13:00 peak at 14:00 > 16:00 actually frick that, the whole song is incredible

12-28-2001 Above The Waves 9:30

05/25/2007 Mr. Don Encore (Doncore) 2:00 peak around 3:20 >

10/04/2009 Hope 14:00 > 16:40 peak at 15:00

04/26/2001 Shem-Rah Boo (inverted) 4:30 > peak around 5:30

10/15/1999 Little Betty Boop 20:00 > 22:22 peakin

10/20/99 Devil's Waltz 8:48

So as you can see, it's pretty delusional for anyone with any ounze of headiness to legitimately believe that trey anastasio is even in the same league as gutwillig. please post more 20 second trey jams always fun putting the phans in their place

I get that you prefer Barber, but trying to call Trey some no-talent hack is just dumb.

Barber on his influences:

quote:

In addition to those ’80s guys, do you have other influences?

Definitely Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Jerry Garcia. And Trey Anastasio from Phish. That would be like the main list there.

If you don't think the NYE '95 Weekapaug is a great jam then you probably don't like Phish.

Those were all just examples of shredding. Some creative jams:

Halley's - 12.7.99 11.22.97

12.6.97 Tweezer Pt II

12.29.94 Bowie

9.14.99 Bag

Heady posted his links

I posted mine. Barber was obviously the better guitarist playing listening to any of these links

Barber > trey; my links > headys links but trey is still good. Barber learned his style from him and just made it better.

Eta: post a trey solo better than anything I posted
