If you want to lump phish into the jam band genre there is only one that matters. Its the one that plays arenas and amphitheaters. Not the one that has been playing the same clubs for 15 years.

And there it is. The "phish plays bigger venues therefore are better" argument. Probably the 4th or 5th time I've seen you post this.

That just makes phish an arena rock nostalgia act. The only good thing about that is that kids can sell phish tickets in order to save up enough money to see the biscuits when they are playing in a different state than one lives.

Lolwsp plays big venues. DMB sells out MSG and the gorge.

Im just saying if I was in a band and we couldn't get any more successful than playing the same 500 person theaters I would realize that my band sucks. I would then do a whole bunch of drugs and try and self sabotage my band as much as possible. Maybe climb onto things and fall off them frequently.

One real jam from a whole tour of cookie cutter jams.

The biscuits do that every night. I'm glad this board is starting to recognize that.

cool, thanks for pointing out the one single example of Phish actually jamming that entire tour

28:27 Chalk Dust 7.13
25:58 Fuego 7.18
20:16 DWD 8.1
20:05 Fuego 7.4
19:00 Fuego 7.30
18:01 Bathtub Gin 7.11
16:32 Ghost 7.12
16:05 Tweezer 7.13
14:44 The Wedge 7.20

Plus other segments that add up to lengthy times (7.1 Ghost->Weekapaug , 7.27 Set II)

Yeah, it isn't the late 90s anymore. I get that. It is a new style of jamming (well not really new, more of a throwback to 92-93 with some traces of 99-00 thrown in), a more concise one with less fat and more to the point. I can see why some people are disappointed because it is a shadow of the old days, but I still dig it.

This is MB gospel and I don't recall any heretic arguing otherwise.

I think a lot of it is younger people who got into Phish during hiatus by listening to the absolute best of the best 90s jams. That is hard to compare and live up to for any band. In reality a lot of the 90s had throwaway songs and shows, but you only listened to the highlights.

Now with 3.0 Phish you can listen to every single show live via stream. Combine that overexposure with a decline in Trey's playing (which in most cases was the draw for most people in the first place IMO) and less variation of jamming and you get the backlash.

Trey is better by miles and miles. I cant believe you idolize an average guitar player who rips off the dude from U2. What a joke that clown is.

Just gonna chime in that Cheese fricking rocks.

I wont rank jam bands but their shows are just as much fun for me. I get that their style of music isn't for everyone, but they are far from awful (i get that you're trolling cptpanic since he can't post and is most likely reading this thread).

Trey was never better than barber. That isn't even an argument. Anyone that says otherwise is trolling or delusional. Trey can barely play basic chords and has arthritis.
