I was in the room here one day... watchin' the Mexican channel on TV. I don't know nothin' about Pele.

I'm watchin' what this guy can do with a ball and his feet. Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the goddamn goalie never knew what the frick hit him.

Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish.

I'm here, sitting alone in my room, and I start crying.

That's right, I start crying.

Because another human being, a species that I happen to belong to, could kick a ball, and lift himself, and the rest of us sad-assed human beings, up to a better place to be, if only for a minute... let me tell ya, kid - it was pretty goddamned glorious.

It ain't the six minutes... it's what happens in that six minutes.

(damn this movie still holds up)

What a great fricking movie...way better than Karate Kid, way more real and adult...maybe even better than Hoosiers.

Dad didn't just fall off the turnip truck.

How can you not know Pele?

He was the original poster child for sports video games.

Was Michael Caine on his team? If so, great movie.

One of my all time favorite 80's movies. Great soundtrack. Lunatic Fringe is amazing.

When I first started reading this thread, I thought you were talking about a documentary on Pele, and I was going to mention this movie.

Yes, but he was a soccer player, so I didn't really care.

Vision Quest was such an awesome movie...too bad nobody under the age of 45 will have any clue to what you are talking about.

Renée - The French: [Hatch has asked how she feels about sheltering him] How do I feel? I feel responsible. Hopeful. When I get word that someone I sheltered is safe, then I'm happy. I can forget them. But when I hear that they've been caught or killed, then I remember everything. I remember their face, their voices, what they said about their parents, their child, their pets, and I mourn for them. I don't want to mourn for you.
Hatch: Well, you're safe with me, Renée.
Renée - The French: How?
Hatch: Well, I'm, uh... an orphan, a bastard. I have no parents, no money, no wife, no children. I don't even have a pet. Anything I say in my sleep to the contrary can't be held against me.

Hatch: Where do I stand for a corner kick?
Capt. John Colby - The Players: England: At the far post, facing the ball.
Hatch: Thanks. For a while there I thought you were keeping it a secret.

Capt. John Colby: What's the verdict on Williams?
Major Karl Von Steiner: A regrettable mistake.
Capt. John Colby: The whole bloody war's a regrettable mistake.
Major Karl Von Steiner: I agree.

What kind of piece of shite down votes this quote, this movie, or that picture???

Vision Quest is one of my all time favorites. The sound track is outstanding. Louden Swain is a bad arse.

Shute wasn't 168. He was at 189 when he wrestled Swain.

Cheatin' bastard.

Just go watch Victory (also known as Escape To Victory). Has Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Max von Sydow, etc., and some good soccer players.

Little bit based on fact little bit on myth.
