Stumbled upon this 5 episode series on HBO Max and loved it. It’s a historical documentary as you may expect.

I’m a big history nerd and yearned for WWI content. They admitted they added color/sound and recreated some action scenes after the fact, but it didn’t deter my interest. It was seamless.

They did a wonderful job of identifying the major figures of the war. Only criticism was I felt like they rushed certain aspects of the conflict but I assume it’s bc they had less footage. The narration is amazing. I wish they spent more time analyzing the conclusion and treaty. But perhaps that’s a separate documentary all together.

I recommend if that your thing and request any other WWI docs. I find it fascinating.

It’s extremely in depth and detailed. Each episode cover a week of the war and the episodes are about 10 min each. Its unbelievably fascinating though.

This was a fantastic docuseries but it is so intense that it made me feel physically sick to my stomach to watch at times. I highly recommend it.

I think I know that outfit. Are they the ones that does minute by minute on WWII?

ETA. Or maybe day by day but they did a minute by minute for Pearl?

I've seen the documentary and its pretty damn good, the only thing it's pretty short obviously because of the lack of film.

Also, for all of you history buffs out there, I suggest watching/binging Mark Felton's youtube channel (covers mostly WW2, but has some WW1 videos too)

If it's the one that originally aired on Nat Geo...

They do a good job of showing how so much technology was developed and used in WWI. Things like the machine guns, tanks, planes, and gas, the scariest new weapon in my mind.

APOCALYPSE WORLD WAR I on NatGeo I can't get the video to work on the NatGeo site. Too old, or too HBO Max.

EPISODE GUIDE

Apocalypse World War I: Fury

Apocalypse World War I: Fear

Apocalypse World War I: Hell

Apocalypse World War I: Rage

Apocalypse World War I: Deliverance

Some of it is on YouTube. Apocalypse WWI / Part 3 of 5 "Hell" on YouTube

The whole thing is showing on the American Heroes Channel from 2pm-7pm Central today. Looks like you can probably stream this one on discovery+.

May have to check this out. There isn't a lot of WWI stuff out there (especially compared to WWII), and I love historical shite.

Small nitpick here but the scenes weren't recreated by the producers of the series.

They were recreated by the soldiers and historians during the actual war.

That's an excellent documentary series. The episode on trench warfare is legitimately hard to watch at times.

Thanks for posting this. HBOMax has such a volume of content it's common for stuff I would find interesting to be missed.

I wasn't getting HBO Max when the it was originally posted. I'm on it now, and this is gone. I hate how everything moves around from one streaming service to another. I originally saw the series on NatGeo. With cable, you could stream it on their site before HBO got it. Looked to see if it was back on NatGeo, but it's not. Guess they can't afford to put stuff they take off back again.

Kind of glad it got bumped because I found the third episode on Daily Motion this time around. It's one of the better ones, as the name, "Hell", might indicate In the first couple of minutes, it shows the soldier's trophy rat pics, and the disfigured faces from one of the wars new weapons, fragment bombs.
