I have outright contempt for people who watch Oak Island. The same level of disgust I show towards people who watch the Kardashians.

We can now add the Flash to list

That's too bad. I was a big fan when it first came on WB. The first few seasons were actually really great writing. Grant Gustin made a great Barry Allen. THe supporting cast was also good.
I don't remember exactly when or why I stopped watching, but I know it was after his daughter had joined the cast. I remember thinking, the story has gotten formulaic, predictable, and uninteresting.
I kept thinking I'd come back around and catch up. What happened with the ending?
[ETA]
OK, I just watched a recap of the whole series. I stopped watching about midway through season 6. It turns out I made the right call. WOW, the show went downhill. Every season after that got worse and worse.
What a sad end to what started out as a good show.

my father in law is a true baw from biloxi mississippi. 75 year old cattle rancher who can't operate a cell phone, but he absolutely will not give up on that show and the whole family makes fun of him for it. He remains undeterred.

They brought back all the evil speedsters to fight Barry one last time and Team Flash took them down rather easily. They also didn’t even give the Reverse Flash a proper ending

I’m just going to say it. If you didn’t get the resolutions of Lost or BSG, you:
-You were pissed off it didn’t end the way your fan fiction theory thought it would.
-You’re one of those people that has to have a movie or TV show spell everything out for you because you don’t want to think about your entertainment.
-Your spiritual perspective was/is at odds with many of the spiritual concepts discussed in both shows.
The Lost writers did not envision a 6 season series. They wanted to do it for 3 or 4. The network, not understanding the immense change in narrative style the show was ushering in as a precursor to our current streaming universe, wanted its bankable 10 season, episodic drama. The writers had to make up a bunch of crap they didn’t originally envision to keep the studio happy. What we got was a happy medium. And an incredibly touching, epic commentary on human spirituality and relationships that will never, ever be duplicated.
Lost is a seminal, groundbreaking television series. One of the best ever made. Top 5, if not #1 of all time.
BSG followed a similar model but on cable. It, too, was hampered by network issues, mainly around funding. Its writing was disjointed as a full year or two would go by between seasons. It had the opposite problem Lost had: it had to end sooner than the showrunners wanted due to lack of budget. They had to speed things up.
In the end, like Lost, it, too, was a game changer for what cable and streaming could do.
I found the ending of BSG satisfying and rewarding. For such a bleak show, the hope and optimism of the ending was a breath of fresh air. Throughout its run, the show, as a whole, expanded the mythos of the original series into a complex, realistic society founded upon a rich history and diverse culture.
There has never been a better reboot made for television. Its world building at its best, surpassing the original in every way imaginable.

Didn't keep them from cashing that paycheck.

It was either that or no paycheck and an unfinished series. Which would you choose?

The ending of Better Call Saul was spoiled to me somehow. I found it so deflating that I have not watched the end of the final episode to this day despite loving BB and watching every other episode of BCS (some of which were absolutely brilliant). Most of the bad endings occur when the t.v. execs bleed these shows for every penny rather than let the writers develop a natural stopping point and poignant ending. Once the show stops being a cash cow, they direct the writers to abruptly end it. I feel like that is what happened with HIMYM and Seinfeld, but BBC has no excuse, especially with the brilliant ending to BB.
Well everyone has an opinion…
You do know that the consensus opinion is that the ending to BCS is one of if not the BEST series finales of all time?
Posted on 5/25/23 at 5:13 pm to dawgfan24348
Seinfeld never had an overarching story, so it didn't even really need an ending.
Posted on 5/25/23 at 5:49 pm to WG_Dawg
I don't think the Seinfeld finale is the best episode by any means, but I will never understand the absolute hate it gets to this day. It was the most Seinfeld way to end the series.

I'll go to my grave swinging on people regarding both of these. It's just mindless parroting and regurgitation at this point. Even this quote from the landing page on the linked article "finales like Seinfeld fundamentally misunderstand the show they’re trying to wrap up, leading to an ending that leaves fans scratching their heads" is so fricking wrong I can't even bother to read any more of it.
THANK YOU for saying this so well. I'm sure some legit didn't like it, but the bandwagon smug wannabe critics wear me out. The finale was more than appropriate in that there were no lessons learned, no happy ending, and no personal growth. Just like in every episode before it, and seeing the dozens of harmed characters so gleeful to be getting their revenge was perfect. Plus, one more chance to see Sidra and her spectaculars was a bonus.
As for Lost, I never got into it but with your excellent Seinfeld opinion, I will defer.
And can we also mention the could-have-been greatest series finale in history that didn't happen because it was cancelled?
Hogans Heroes

I wonder how many thousands of times that small island could have been completely dug down to nothing since the show first aired?

Seinfeld was still at the top of the ratings, Jerry just wanted to end it while it was still strong and before he got too tired of it. That's why the last line was so fitting, "Haven't we had this conversation before?" He and Larry David are the kind of people who make it easy to believe that they would want to quit once they felt it was getting repetitive.
