Almost everything Tom and Roman said was solid gold. You think those were some of the worst lines ever?

Maybe they had Star Fox on tatooine?

It was clearly a joke, francis. However, it is silly acting like a kid that has grown up in a world that knows about space flight and starships/figher ships, wouldn't know what a barrel roll is . Hell, he even talks about being a pilot in one of the early scense and talking with all the starship pilots.

quote:

Anakin was a poor slave boy who didn't have much of anything. Much like Rey, banging around in a the hull of a old starship, how the eff did she know anything about compressors or flying?

Anakin didn't . Majority of that scene is him trying to figure out what to do after R2 took it off autopilot, poorly, and then crashing. He has some knowledge based on podracing on how to handle a vehicle, but that took him so far as figuring out how to steer, again poorly.

Rey's flying acumen is beyond ridiculous. Hell, them having Chewbacca refer to her on knowledge on how to fix the Falcon was one of them most asinine parts of any Star Wars movie.

quote:

It's ALL lame, cringe and forced.

I didn't once say it was a good scene. Just that it was not even close to the worst line in a movie filled with awful dialogue. Hell, there is a much worse line in that very same scene "Now this is podracing". No the frick it isn't kid . That line needs the novelaztion of what R2 says to him, to have it make any damn sense.

Anakin does max out on cringe several times with Padme, no question.

I just hate the over kiddifying of SW like we saw with the damn Ewoks & moving forward.

He piloted a f$&king pod racer. Not only that, but he was an ELITE podracer. While he had never flown a fighter jet before, he was already an accomplished pilot flying low to the ground. With that said, he also struggled with the fighter plane at first.

So a kid driving around in gassed up go cart on a dirt track can pilot a F 22 Raptor??

Cool.

Come on now.

Forgetting about the fact that he had said earlier in the movie that he was a pilot already and was obsessed with star pilots, not even talking about podracing at that point. We can either assume he just meant podracing or can take that to mean he has at least some practice with actual flight. He was a mechanic for a junk yard that repaired many things, including ship parts so he was more than familiar with them. He also built a pod racer from scratch, as a kid. If we really want to nerd out about this, the only "flying" he did was in space, where there was no atmosphere and he didn't have to worry about lift or drag. The technology of the ship took care of most everything. So, in reality, there probably wasn't much actual difference in controlling a pod racer and controlling that ship in space. Point and steer. It isn't that much of a leap to believe that someone that can pilot a rocket powered aircraft that flies low to the ground, can smemi-steer a rocket powered aircraft that is in space.

So, maybe a more apt analogy would be a kid that built and raced his own rocket powered IndyCar from scratch can pilot an F22 Raptor if he didn't have to worry about keeping the Raptor in the air? Even then, he failed miserably and crashed the thing within a few minutes of taking over manual controls. Then, hit every button he could and kaboom

As have been your poor analogies. In a movie that has quite a few questionable things, this is an odd one that you have latched onto, when a whole part of Anakin's character is being a prodigy pilot.

I didn’t launch into anything. Look at the brevity of my posts vs yours. Good grief.

I replied to the thread question. Straight forward because it stood out to me at the time and all these years later it was the first thing I thought of.

There are other lines, which I left to others to post.

It just hits the ear so wrong

It is like watching movies or shows where it is very clear that nobody involved has ever thrown a baseball or football or something.

Latch , launch, same difference. Your overly wordy reply to a simple thread offering comes off as excessive.

But you do you.
