According to BoxOfficeMojo, there were 242 wide releases last year. 71 were released in 3000+ theaters, 93 in 2500+, and 119 in at least 2000.

According to their definition, there have been 92 wide releases this year. 31 in 3000+, 46 in 2500+, and 54 in 2000+. Only by narrowing the definition of wide release can we make it only encompass two non-franchises.

Us and Alita ranked 15th and 16th in # of theaters (3800 apiece). Shaft was 32nd at just under 3000. Every film above it was in 3000+ theaters. Let's use that as the low definitional boundary of wide release. Of those 31 films, the following weren't franchises, in order of # of theaters...

14 Wonder Park (3838)
15 Alita
16 Us
18 Uglydolls
19 Rocketman
20 Pet Sematary (ok, that's a remake)
21 The Upside
22 The Kid Who Would Be King
23 Isn't It Romantic
24 Missing Link
25 The Curse of La Llarona
27 A Dog's Journey
28 Long Shot
29 Happy Death Day 2U
30 A Dog's Way Home
31 The Hustle

The Updside is the only one other than US to crack $100 million. Probably because the rest of them were terrible and the 1st part of the year is the famous dumping ground for awful movies. But... wow. That's a depressing list. It gets worse from 32-50, bringing us to #50 The Intruder at 2200 theaters.

Though there is the outrage that Booksmart was in 2,518 theaters and grossed under $20 million.
