Other countries aired it live, with no audio omission.

The date of this announcement is noted, but make of it what you wish.

quote:

Will Smith announced yesterday that he has resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The statement, released to multiple outlets, comes five days after the King Richard actor slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage during the 94th annual Academy Awards, in response to a distasteful joke Rock made about the actor's wife Jada Pinkett-Smith's shaved head.

I have directly responded to the Academy's disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film. - Will Smith

Also I want any kind of logic why a joke written by the Oscar's writers, not Rock, would warrant a slap?

He didn't even write the joke and it's well known in the industry the performers can not write material to use in the Oscars.

So again, why did he slap a guy reading lines written by someone else?

Netflix Backs Away from Will Smith Film ‘Fast and Loose’ (Exclusive)

The project had already lost director David Leitch before the infamous Oscars slap, and now the streaming service has quietly moved the film to the back burner in the awards ceremony’s wake, according to sources.

Maybe the 20 somethings who approved of the joke need to answer that.

Kind of like the kid from the Alec Baldwin movie who was in charge of the guns.

The cable channels have been showing more Will Smith stuff since. Saw all three Bad Boys, Enemy of the State and Gemini Man on tv this last week.

I know it didn't get wide acclaim, but I liked Bright. Reminded me a bit of the old Alien Nation series. Guess that's not getting any revision now.

You're laughing at your own 'joke'. Nothing remotely is working out well for Will Smith out of this. It's only getting worse. He's resigned from the Academy (yes, for now), and is losing contracts on streaming services.

They care about money. That's why they sided with the BLM mobs. "Don't burn our mansions!! We support you!!"

Now that their actions are starting to have financial impact on their lives, let's see how they react.

It's preceded by the infamous Lawler/Kaufman slap on Letterman.

Reread what you just wrote. You just equated an alt comic in Andy Kaufman who was hardly a household name getting hit by Jerry Lawler (a pro wrestler most in the country couldn't have picked out of a line up) to Will Smith (one of the biggest blockbuster movie stars of all time and a guy who was literally favored to win the Oscar 40 minutes later) hitting Chris Rock (an undisputed Top 10 All time stand up comedian.)

Kaufman was looking for publicity because he needed it. These two did not. At all. Even a little, and certainly not like that right there.

Keep in mind, there is ZERO evidence you'll accept at this point...you realize that, right? It doesn't matter how many people close to what happened admit it really happened, or what The Academy does, or Will Smith does or says. You've carved out a position that in unfalsifiable. I, on the other hand, could be persuaded in was fake by any of the culprits admitting they faked it. Easy peasy.

Will Smith isn't Andy Kauffman. None of this was staged.

That's one heck of a logic pretzel you're trying to sell to justify this on-air live assault of another black man.

If in a week, a month, or whenever, Jada, Will and Chris stand on stage and take a bow as they formally admit this was all some sort of performance art, I'll admit I was fooled, but still hold to the fact that it was a disaster for all involved.

So they staged the slap because... ?

What possible benefit could have been gained?

So- you have no answer. Thought as much.

quote:

Why didn't they use the tape delay? You know, the half-century technology that allowed the broadcasters to censor out the 100% real, unplanned, slap?

They did use a delay for the audio. If there'd been an actual horrific event, they'd cut away. But other feeds did show live, (like Australia), so your point is moot.

Chris Rock didn't crumble to the ground. Will Smith didn't scream Allahu Akbar! and then end anyone in the audience. Yes, it was a slap, not a vicious graphic assault.

That's why.

You contradict yourself. Is it serious, or not serious? You have used the consequences from the slap to justify that the slap was real. But now, here you are saying that it's just a slap, and no big deal for them to edit.

This makes you look stupid.

I fully explained myself, which is totally different than a contradiction.

Learn the difference.

Yes, the slap was real. A slap at an live black tie event(or what passes as one in Hollyweird these days)

I can't imagine why this issue matters to you so much. But it's never happened before. Will Smith has resigned from the Academy. His projects are being cancelled, which affects more than just him. All those who were expecting to work on those projects are now out of a job.

This goes well beyond Will Smith's wallet.

But you want to argue on a message board for the sake of arguing. You have no case. Nothing to back up your pretzel logic claims.

Good luck with all that.

Seriously, are you just trolling now? I can't believe anybody could still be arguing this was real.
