for those who have seen the broadway play, or the play wherever it was. Is it being split into these two movies, or is the second movie new material not covered in the broadway play?
Havent seen it ( I will be seeing it in a few weeks) but from my understanding the end of the first movie is the intermission of the broadway play.

Not shocked at a sequel.
Shocked that second one is ready to go.
Never seen the movie just the stage production.

I watched the first one on Max. It took me three efforts to finish. I'm just not looking forward to the faked enthusiasm over it. Felt the same way about Barbie. Watched it on Max, but hated the fawned glorification of its incredibleness

Or, it could be people just really liked it, I am one of those people. Just because you didn't like it, that doesn't make it "faked enthusiasm".

Correct. The first movie covers act one of the stage show. The second film will cover the events in act two, with some changes from what I understand.

Another movie that hates and seeks to ruin the original that it steals from.

Erivo needs to starve in the streets and Grande looks like she's going to beat her to it.

This might be the most lol version of this accusation I've seen.
Its slavish devotion to the play, its dedication to not cutting anything, is a major part of why the film was mediocre.

Ariana looks like she came out of a prison camp. She’s unattractively skinny.

For all it's faults, this just isn't true. The film was based on a stage play, which was in turn based on a novel by Gregory Maguire. If anything, the play/film tones down some of the more bizarre aspects of the novel. Now, if you mean the original L.Frank Baum source material and the 1939 film, maybe I can see your point, but I don't think the movie hates on either of those either. While I'm not a fan of how Cynthia Errivo and Ariana Grande keep making comments that maybe Elphaba and Glinda were more than just friends, the first film was pretty much a spot on adaptation of act one of the stage show. There are strong rumors that the script for the second film deviates significantly from the play, particularly the ending. Not sure why that was necessary, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

How is the play original? It was based on a book that was based on another book, which is the original source of material. The book was written by Frank Baum. Now we find out the Wizard was some evil jerk and the witch is the hero, which is very different from the original story.

Very few books and films are truly original these days. Most draw their inspiration from other source material. That said, it's a revisionist take on the events from The Wizard of Oz. The Wizard is not 100% an evil jerk and the witch is more of an anti-hero. She's not portrayed as a saint. She still does the things she does in the original story, I.e. terrorizes Oz and kidnaps Dorothy, but the stage play and film expounds somewhat on the method behind her madness. Without getting too spoilery, she was the victim of a massive smear campaign by the regime that was currently in power. That's what starts her journey to becoming wicked.
