Your stance that it is impossible to show a white character bullying a black character without it being construed as racist shows a lack of creativity on your part.
The people in the writers room probably have a better idea of how to accomplish such a thing on screen, even if it is beyond the imagination of the posters on this board

Snape vs James is such a minimal thing to the story though. If they had time to develop it, sure it would be possible. It's such a bit part and not something you are going to spend a huge amount of time to do properly. You aren't even going to spend any time on it til a little bit in PoA season, with most of the memories of it not even showing to OotP.
Honestly, because of HBO's previous shows and history, no I don't expect them to do it properly at all. There is no point into wading into this with the show, just makes it more likely to not be great, I don't want that.

HBO is making a mistake if they do this. Two thirds of the HP fan base will likely not agree with the change and could tune out. Why do this? The book enthusiasts will be influenced by the original book illustrations (which JK herself agreed with), and the movie fans will be influenced by the original cast. Just another dumb business decision trying to be inclusive.

Yep. Im a fan, and will immediately lose interest because of the bullshite dei choice. If done right, a multi-season show of Harry Potter could be bigger than Game of Thrones or even the originally Potter movies. But they’ll probably frick it up and have mediocre viewership and claim it a success like Amazon did for Rings of Power.

For 20 years Snape, Harry, Dumbledore, etc are white. To change the race of the character is retarded and racist at the same time.
I won't even consider watching 5 minutes of it.
If they remade Superman and cast a black person, I'd feel the same way. Quit being racist. Those characters are Caucasian. Not black, Indian, Asian etc. WHITE.

Because Snape was clearly not described or illustrated as a black guy in the books. If it doesnt matter at all, then why are studio deliberately race swapping well established characters?
I don’t mind some artistic liberties being taken in some fictional depictions, but you can’t just go crazy with it or you are going to weird people out or turn them off by subverting the expectations of something that has been in their head for a long time.
House of Dragons made the Velaryons black, and though they clearly werent depicted that way in the books, they were side characters enough that it wasn’t a huge deal, and it’s a great show imo.
But hell, just make Harry black if nothing matters…
