The only conflict from Selma was caused by SJW's. They were saying that Selma only lost the BP Oscar because of racism. That opened it up to a world of shite.
Roaad, I like you as a poster, but are you saying there weren't posters on here who were saying the Selma was a race baiting movie that was only made to stir up trouble.
That they didn't talk about all the trouble those protesters caused by you know, fighting for basic human rights?
Are you saying that 12 Years a Slave didn't get a lot of the same comments?
Are you going to say that Blue and his posse weren't going into town about Disney pandering to minorities and special interest groups because they cast a black man and a woman as the leads.
That the basically spelled out that anytime a non-white male isn't cast in a big budget movie that hollywood is pandering?
I would never say that thought process represents this board, because that is not true. I love this board and I think it is the best board on TD. However, let's not act like that population does not exist here and is very vocal.

I am sure there were.
But you are calling out a board, so you need to do better than "some".

I'm not calling out a board.
I specifically said this board is great and the best board on TD. I also specified that there is a population of posters with that mentality on the Movie board.
I do my best not to paint in broad strokes for obvious reasons.

but damn if they aren't vocal and damn if they don't get a lot of other posters riled up.
I normally wouldn't chime in on threads like this, but I am just in a bad mood.

Movies were better when only straight, white, Christian men were allowed to star in them.

Throwing in my womanly 2 cents:
As a female, I'm not a big fan of movies that go with a female cast just to go with a female cast. Storyline or franchise be damned. And I hate Leslie Jones. So I think that's probably a poor example. It was going to get shite on whether it was an all-female cast or it was a bunch of young Hollywood Bieber-types. I don't know that I'd call the pitcher show the worst show ever, but I read the premise and some articles leading up to and it's probably just another one that'll get carried by FOX while better shows are cancelled.
That all said, there are some particular posters on here that lose their shite over women being in "powerful" roles. There was some that are crying over GoT having "too many" strong female characters or females in leadership roles. There were some that cried over Finn in Star Wars (that weren't just fan boys who had issues with the universe type thing). And there are some that are definitely here just to troll.
I wouldn't brand the whole board as woman hating by any means though. There's definitely a portion, especially ones that drift over from other boards from time to time. But by majority this board is probably far more accepting than others on TD.

I don't hate women, I hate Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Rosie O'Donnel, and Rebel Wilson.
I don't hate movies with female or minority leads, I hate movies that try to "make a statement" by casting minority or female leads. It's 2016, no one has an issue with what race or genders the leads in a movie are unless one makes it an issue by only casting them for cynical reasons (i.e. Push an agenda)
I don't hate remakes. I hate poor, unnecessary remakes of much beloved movies and franchises. Good remakes take a movie that was made with inferior technology or made so long ago that few people remember it, and brings it into the modern age with a faithful adaptation utilizing modern technology and modern, talented, actors. You shouldn't bring back a franchise to make it with (insert gender or minority here) actors just to be "edgy". Why? Because doing so is designed to make white men look like a-holes, and movies made for cynical reasons tend to not be very good movies. And if one does make such a movie, don't paint all negative opinions of that bad movie as being rooted in racism or mysogeny. Nothing makes an audience more angry than being talked down to.
I don't hate CGI, I hate bad, obvious CGI, and unnecessary CGI, where a human in a costume would have been just as easy. Look at the Lord of the Rings verses The Hobbit to see the difference between good and bad.
Lucas tells great stories, but he often tweeks them after the fact unnecessarily, and his dialogue definitely leaves much to be desired at times.
M. Night Shamalan's schtick has gotten old and derivative, and the quality of his movies have suffered as a result. Unbreakable, Signs, ect were all great movies.
Simply, we like good movies, not the SJW crap we've been getting.

This board hates pretty much everything. Almost every movie has been called "the worst movie ever made" by someone here. The remaining few have all been labelled overrated. This board especially hates CGI, remakes of any sort, and all DC movies. This board hates George Lucas, M Night Shamalamadingdong, and most casting decisions.
But women? no. We like women here.

Every time this topic comes up I simply point to the latest star wars.
Female lead.
Great story.
No one bitched.
It's not that this board hates women. This board hates shitty stories that happen to have women as the leads.
Ghostbusters was shite from the concept to the delivery. Then the studio double downed and tried to make it because we hated women.
Utter nonsense.
