That was terrible. The 4 year old kids that played the Wise Men in my son's Christmas program were more believable.

I think the film being in black and white probably helps.

Because Orson Welles was a f*cking genius filmmaker, decades ahead of his time.

Why do the special effects in 2001 and Bladerunner look way better than any of the CGI-fueled crapfests that pass for "movies" nowadays?

(You kind of expected this sort of response out of a victim of cynicism like myself, didn't you? - I should form a support group on the M/TV board.)

That's easy. Everything made on a computer is so clean and sterile that it lacks grit, it doesn't look real. Then you put actors against backdrops they cant see interacting with characters that aren't there and you have extremely fake looking shite

That's it.

Remember the scene in Attack of the Clones when Padme falls off the transport, and then talks to a CGI clone to give them orders. It looked so ridiculous and embodied everything wrong with the Prequels.

Just put a real guy in a fricking suit and then put them in a real desert landscape.

I just rewatched a Blu-Ray of Lawrence of Arabia - breathtaking visuals and it makes you feel like you're in the desert.

I can't imagine the CGI experience if they made that movie today - CGI doesn't make you feel like you're there - in fact, it separates you further from the movie experience.

Actors also just looked older back then. Clark Gable was in his 30's when he did It Happened One Night and GWTW and looked 10 years older.
