Why did M*A*S*H spend 11 years pretending that Houlihan was a smoke show?

I don’t recall having a Lorreta Switt poster in my room.

I will never understand this.
I know they had a limited number of non-Korean women there, but still.

It’s the office hotness effect. A girl in your office is way hotter there than if you saw her at a bar.
Now magnify that times a billion for a 1950s foreign war zone.

Why was the entire show about Hawkeye? Trapper was the better character IMO.

There sure as hell wasn't a Hawkeye spin-off.

Same thing with Diane on Cheers.

They never act like she was super hot...which is what made Sam's attraction part of the humor.
But go back and watch the first season of Cheers, Diane is really really cute.

Solid point.
Although, Cheers did go out of it’s way to make a point that Sam could pull any hot “Bimbo” he wanted but was attracted to Diane’s depth even if he didn’t want to be.

Me either. Once she lost the baby fat out her face she went from passable to hideous.
She did have tremendous jowl potential though.

If you need pics of Loretta Switt, you don’t understand the point of this thread.

I don't think they went that far. Sure Hawkeye, Trapper, and Henry would have nailed it out of spite and the older generals were wild about her but there were others. Lt. Dish.

Switt had the only female in a war zone thing going on for her. That and she was a pretty darn solid comedic actress.
In the movie her role was played by Sally Kellerman. Not the sexiest actress alive I grant you, but she did do some nude scenes.
Switt was... cute. Not gorgeous. Not amazing. Not asstacular. She was cute and she was funny.
That probably made her more appealing to a lot of folks because she seemed more accessible.

Rebecca wasn't that hot either.

The characters were co-leads in the movie and Trapper was probably the more dominant role.
Wayne Rogers was great as Trapper and left because he started to get less lines and of course they replace em with a beta cuck like BJ.

Hell, they were almost tri-leads with Tom Skerrit in the film -- a character that was literally ignored in the series.
And for the movie, the Hot Lips nickname and how she got it is just one of the many reasons I enjoy the movie so much more than the show now.
She's cute in the movie to them, they even acknowledge it when Duvall hooks up with her, but she's the butt of the joke because she was such a square.

Doesn’t Skerrit bop her too?

Watch the first 3 seasons in order and as you go along, you see how Alda increases his overacting to get attention.
