The dialogue is really bad. Campy, which isn't bad in some movies, but I don't want it with my Batman.
The first time we see Batman, he appears behind two robbers, and they turn around to look at him. It's lit well enough that you can clearly see it's just a guy in a suit, but then Keaton spreads his cape, and it's scary
He then kicks one of the robbers through a door, and then acts like he's going to drop the other one off of the building, tells him he's Batman, and then hangs him upside down. The music and the score are really good. I'll give it that, and it's entertaining, but in no uncertain terms does it feel like a movie I should take seriously at all, and if we're having a discussion of "best," then it falls woefully behind.

If you think about it, Nolans films were the first superhero movies you were ever supposed to take seriously. Thats not really a fair criterion.
Schumacher was even hired because the studios thought Burtons films were too dark. They wanted more camp (and good lord they got it.)

Perhaps, but I've already stated that Keaton did fine as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I can separate him from the faults of the film.

Nolan's movies are clearly better, but Burton hit a home run where Nolan did not...gotham. Burton gets "gotham" Maybe Nolan does but it just didn't fit with what he was doing. He tried in Begins though, and just abandoned it for TDK; which was a good choice.

I was just shocked that a rich dude who got hurt while participating in the ultimate rich dude activity of horse racing was turned into some sort of hero.
Although I admit his non-profit The Christopher Reeve Foundation that teaches proper horse riding technique to inner city youth is awe inspiring.
