I’ve never seen The Office, although I’m going to one day.

Have never seen Friends ... doubt I ever will.

Never missed Seinfeld. Good final episode, loved the Green Day music.

Friends is consistently funny in every episode. Great writing.

I very much enjoyed friends, still watch reruns today and when it was live is was can't miss, must-see viewing.

Wtih that said one thing that really bothers me lookign back is how they gave Joey the "kevin from the office" treatment in making him basically a barely functioning ruhtard. Early Joey is a rico suave ladies man, later joey is someone that can barely count or form sentences together. And I've never cared for phoebe's "humor", which is basically nothing more than just being dumb and making RANDOM NOISES!!!! at times.

Seinfeld messed up by trying to actually have a finale. It was a self proclaimed show about nothing. T
common misconception. Larry David has stated multiple times that Seinfeld was never a show about nothing. Jerry was a show about nothing. Seinfeld was primarily meant to be a show about guys sitting around talking about stuff such as The Chinese Restaurant. Executives and a desire to last forced them to develop.

Seinfeld finale was horrible.

Most finales are horrible as htey are the end. The one exception to this was 6 feet under. that finale was off the charts good. best episode of the series.

I also like to tell my friends taht will listen that it's quite the opposite...Seinfeld was actually a show about everything, not nothing. I mean every mundane, odd thing you experience in your adult life at some point (some jerk trying to take your parking spot ahead of you, not remembering a woman's name that remembers yours, people sidling up behind you, close talkers, low talkers, your parents being overly involved in your life, your boss being a blowhard, that random aquaintenance that acts like he's your best friend that you have to find a way to blow off, trying to meet up with your buddies in one place before cell phones and pagers, etc etc etc) they made a show about in a way that just about everyone can relate to in some way. That's not nothing. I think the "show about nothing" thing gets played up a lot because they did just hang out a lot and they didn't do the classic sitcom tropes of having 2 of the characters get married, or have kids, or have serious "heartfelt" sitdown moments in episodes.

I don't know. He had basically two lines and they were the best two lines of the finale.

I actually think all 3 served the purpose of their show well:

quote:

The Office

As the show about a documentary it proved that life went on. It wrapped up enough, but left enough open to more. It was heartfelt and funny, which is The Office to a T.

quote:

Friends

It's the bubble gum of the trio. Good for what it was, actually excellent, it had the most closure out of all three clearly closing out the Manhattan apartment days of the group. They were on to the next stage of their lives. And what was most important for the run of the show, "friends," was going to change to something else, "families."

quote:

Seinfeld

It actually was a perfect close to the show, no I didn't want a typical ending because Seinfeld wasn't a typical show.

Agree wholeheartedly. All the people saying that it sucked or was garbage, I'd be interested in knowing specifically what was garbage about it, or what they expected to see instead. Most answers I see to that essentially boil down to "it was a clip show!". Which I mean, it showed past people's involvement but I certainly wouldn't call it a clip show. That hour long special they aired before the finale (that ended with Good Riddance)...that was a clip show.

Yeah, if I were you I'd watch The Office. I like all three shows, but I can understand nowadays if some people are not into Friends. Humor has changed somewhat. The office has some good subplots that slowly evolve and progress. Even after Michael leaves its pretty good, with a few exceptions, imho.

Considering Friends' and Seinfeld's were extremely meh, at best, The Office winds by default.

Weird topic, Seinfeld was my favorite sitcom ever but the finale is almost universally hated or considered mediocore at best.. we don't even speak of it on festivus

Someone might as well start a topic called "What movie had a happier ending: Old Yeller or Of Mine & Men"

Bingo. The Office finale was so good it made me and still makes me get emotional over a line from one of my least liked characters in the show.

IMHO, Friends and Seinfeld had opposite tragectories. Friends was pretty good starting off, then they got super typecast. Joey became dumb, Monica became neurotic, Ross was normal then he became a super-spaz and I don’t know what Phoebe turned into. Seinfeld on the other hand was very spotty the first few seasons, then really took off and got better.

Ok either way, each show didn’t build on the previous one. There were no final questions to answer.

The finale just felt like forced closer.

so how should it have ended? Take any random episode from, let's say season 5, and now pretend that was actually the series finale. You think that would have been more satisfying? People would have flipped their shite.

How is Seinfeld even in the conversation? It is the GOAT comedy show with a terrible ending.

I've always found the Seinfeld finale to be unfairly maligned. I found it perfectly fitting a finale.

In general I think people have way too ridiculously high expectations for finales to shows which is why so many of them are judged to be so 'terrible'

The better the show, the higher the expectations, which is probably why Seinfeld's finale is so reviled.
