Good question. Really hard to decide between movies and music.

I think im a little more into movies at the moment. A month from now when one of my favorite bands come out with a new cd its probably music. I get frustrated at the amount of music I cant listen to, its so hard to keep up with new music while its not too hard with movies. I read a lot more books than I used to as well.

If I had to rank them it would probably go...

Film
Music
Books
*From here on I dont really immerse my myself in any of them on a regular basis*
Video Games - Maybe once or twice every few months
Graphic Novels - Once, the Watchmen
Art - Meh, unless we are talking MS Paint
Comic Books - Never

I don't read nearly as much as I used to, but I still find it much harder to put down a book than to turn off a TV, CD player or video game.

I have friends who are hooked on video games like crack.

I knew people who got hooked on porn like that too.

All of them. I have video games I couldn't stop playing, books I read all night, TV shows I couldn't stop watching until I had seen them all, and movie that I wish didn't end.

Great question. I find that a book is the only thing that requires my full concentration. I can't read a book and do anything else, unlike watch movies and especially TV. Music is ubiquitous in my life. It's always there.

But a great anything really is an immersive experience, whether it's film or music.

Yeah I get easily distracted. Especially during tv shows. Some movies as well.

Agree on books.

Sadly, I almost never listen to music. I'm one of the few, I believe.

I can sleep with the TV or CD playing, I never was fascinated the way some are with video games, porn can get my attention but not for very long , to be honest I might have a problem with this internet surfing.

TV shows. I swear sometimes I actually think it's real life, and I'm actually involved This typically happens when I'm watching serialized TV. I rarely watch a show when it's still still making new episodes.

I love movies, just hate the fact that they're over so quick. I always want more.

I'll get on a reading kick from time to time & read 3-4 books in a span of a couple of weeks.

I don't play video games.

I am missing this part in my life right now. I've been on the same book for about 1 year and that's because it's so long, and I fill up my day with reading other things...and, sadly, this message board has sort of filled the role of books/reading in my life ever since my desert experience.

I'll hopefully break that mold soon because I'll need to read fiction to compliment my scientific research that way I can wind down at night.

On immersive and those small books: I love them for that fact. They just plop you into that world and you are running along at breakneck pace in that story. It's hard to put those down, and you realize how you're tearing through the pages so you think you can finish it in one sitting...which is really like 10 hours. 2001 ACClarke did this to me while I was visiting my parents one afternoon and Breakfast of Champions KVonnegutJr on a long travel day.

Video games especially with MMO's or a good RPG. It's always one more thing, or I need to know what happens next, or I have to farm a little more. Just like that you've lost 6 hours in a blink of an eye. People actually have to get treatment for being too addicted to MMO's

Not too long ago I actually read Jungle Book. We were talking about the movie for some reason and I mentioned that I never read the book growing up. My buddy was like "dude its not really a kids book, its actually a really good read."

So went and bought it and read it within the week and loved it. There were some really dark themes in there and I loved it. I dont read too much serious books or mysyteries or anything like that. I stick to stuff that is going to be a fun read: Tolkien, Conan Doyal, Twain ect. I mean my favorite book of all time is Huck Finn. So Jungle Book easily jumped to one of my favorite books ever The short story Ricky Ticky Tavi was freaking unreal good. I probably sound like a 5th grader but I dont care that was some good stuff.

#1 Video Games - easily #1. And I can get immersed in different ones in different ways (GTAs - playing the story lines and being destructive; sports - building up your favorite teams or bad teams to good ones). Video games can be a gratifying experience

#2 TV Shows - I can watch a whole season of a TV show in one day but would find it hard to devote 6 straight hours to watching a movie trilogy

#3 Movies - When I watch movies they get my undivided attention. I probably dissect them more after the fact so I would call it a more "after the fact immersion" if that makes sense. Also most of the time you are done with the characters after 2 hours or so. This is why TV shows are more immersive IMO - longer time with the characters.

#4 Books - although I only read when I travel but that can be quite often. I am fully immersed in a book whenever I am on a plane

#5 Music - I am constantly listening to music in the background and very rarely is it getting my undivided attention

Art/Comic Books/Graphic Novels - not into any of these 3
