A really odd one is James Whitmore on The Red Badge of Courage.

Many a discouraging word
We'll never know how good John Houston's The Red Badge of Courage is, as the great director's adaptation of the great Civil War novel was drastically cut by the studio. The trimmed footage was apparently destroyed, so no director's cut will ever be available.
But those Hollywood butchers must have had some sensitivity because we still have a pretty good film of the book left. The studio also added a voice-over by James Whitmore to introduce and conclude the film. and to occasionally provide the main character's thoughts, quoting from the book directly to stress the connection with the literary classic.

God I love that movie. So well directed.

How is it even possible to not like Goodfellas?
I'm not as high on it as others, either. Good, not great, movie. Just never grabbed me as much as others.

Where's Casino? That's the first movie I thought of seeing the post. I think it's got too much narration. More than any other Martin Scorsese film. Nevertheless, it's a favorite movie of mine.

Tom Hanks narration almost ruined Elvis IMO

I know it was mainly the beginning but just rewatched the Cider House Rules. Love the score of that movie. Michael Cain delivers like always. Young Tobey Maguire, Charlize Theron and Paul Rudd. Love the time frame of the movie set before and after WWII.

Glory when they read Col. Shaw's real letters in scenes is pretty great.

I know this doesn’t really pertain to the subject as for movies with narration. But I had recently finished a documentary that was narrated excellently and I’ve heard the voice before but I could not put my finger on it. Looked it up and it was actor Liv Schreiber. I apparently recognized his voice from HBO’s NFL films Hard Knocks. He does a shite ton of other documentary narration, many of which is National Geographic type stuff. I was really surprised. I think he’s better at that than acting.
