What's your all-time favorite western ?

For me it's always been this one:

Great story, fantastic acting by Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, and Lee Van Cleef.

Sergio Leone is a master at westerns (see also Once Upon a Time in the West), and the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone is great as well.

I actually got to see it on the big screen at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham a few years ago, and while watching it on tv is great, seeing it on the big screen was incredible.

Outlaw Josey Wales, Unforgiven, Once Upon a Time in the West, and Tombstone are all great movies, but The Good, The Bad & The Ugly is the best of that genre in my opinion.

It's going to be a sad day when Clint Eastwood dies (he's 90 now if you can believe that) To me, his body of work as an actor and director will never be topped.

So what are your favorites ? Always looking for more good westerns to watch.

Maybe a tie between Silverado and Tombstone.

My favorites are Shane, Magnificent Seven, Silverado, Open Range, The Wild Bunch and a trio of Eastwood - The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Hang’em High and Fist Full of Dollars. If Lonesome Dove counts it would rank at top of my list (and Return to Lonesome Dove is worth a watch), would also list Deadwood if not limited to movies.

I'm gonna have to agree with you and say The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Either that or High Plains Drifter.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is probably my favorite. Some others I love though that I can't argue with:

Tombstone
Josey Wales
The Searchers
True Grit
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Rio Bravo
High Noon
Lonesome Dove
Once Upon a Time in the West
Unforgiven
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

That one is a classic !

Paul Newman is probably my 2nd favorite actor...

Cool Hand Luke
Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid
The Sting
The Hustler
Slapshot

And his popcorn is fricking great !

Love Paul Newman too. Only started watching his movies fairly recently too and not sure why.

The Searchers

The thing about John Wayne is he was so iconic years ago that people tend to dismiss him today. I hadn't really watched any of his films until recently, and though they had a different vibe than Clint Eastwood's works, they absolutely hold up.

Searchers
Rio Bravo
Stagecoach (yes, even one this old is still pretty good)
True Grit/Rooster Cogburn
Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Chisum
The Cowboys

Anyone could pick any of these (or others) as their favorite Western, and it wouldn't be a bad pick.

Unforgiven.

So many good ones listed but a couple of more favorites of mine are

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
