Logan is REALLY old, heals quickly and has adamantium attached to his skeleton to go along with quite a temper. There you go, you're all caught up. I could be wrong, but it should be fine as a stand alone movie.

Honestly i would only consider x-men origins:wolverine and the wolverine must watches before u see Logan, unless u dont mind waiting like a week and watching them all, but i dont think they'll clear anything up

So is this another one of those alternative universe movies? I never read the comics but I know this was a common theme. The past couple movies are a little confusing though.

So we go from a great looking future at the end of DOFP but now its back to everythings effed up and all mutants are dead?

Its after dofp, plenty of time for the story line to have taken place after dofp, they probably should've added a few more years between tho

I don't really care about the timelines all fitting together tho, this movie makes perfect sense in the setting of this movie, there wont be anymore hugh jackman wolverines, so i think his story is over unless they do some past events

It's not canon with the X-Men film series. It's a self-contained one-off.

Its self contained but it still continues his story from the other movies

Days of Future Past is the only prequel to this movie that involves Wolverine, I think.

But to appreciate Days of Future Past, you'll need to see the first 3 X-Men and First Class.

I don't think it's a "continuation" of the story, because like I said, I read that it doesn't fall in the film series canon. I think the other movies serve as a bibliography for the character to be aware of him, but this is a "Wolverine part three" in very loosely defined terms.

well the director said it takes place after the epilogue of days of future past, so i'm gonna go with that.

here is the take i read from some "expert"

quote:

1981: The events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine do not occur because Wolverine is already incarcerated by Stryker.

1983: The events of X-Men Apocalypse occur. Wolverine is freed from his imprisonment at the Weapon X facility by young Cyclops and Jean Grey, with his new adamantium skeleton and claws.

Sometime afterwards, a man in a suit arrives there and collects the blood of Wolverine, placing vials of it into a case marked “Essex Corp” - a fact that will be crucial for the events of Wolverine 3.

2000: It is unknown whether the events of X-Men occur or not.

2003: It is unknown whether the events of X2 occur or not.

2006: The events of X-Men: The Last Stand do not occur and Jean Grey doesn’t go crazy, so Logan doesn’t have to put her down.

2013: The events of The Wolverine do not occur as Jean Grey, Cyclops and Beast did not die.

2016: The events of Deadpool occur.

2023: Since the timeline has been altered, we see a glimpse of the new 2023 at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Things are as normal at Professor X’s school, with Wolverine a History teacher and Jean Grey and Beast very much alive.

2029: The events of Logan take place.

No new mutants have been born for twenty years and Wolverine is living as a limo driver on the Mexican border with Professor X and Caliban.

Since the blood of Logan was picked up by Essex Corp in 1983, it's assumed that this produced X-23, a female clone of Wolverine, known as Laura in the new film.

Scraping a living a a limo driver, Wolverine ends up on a road trip across the states being persuaded by dark forces who want to recapture X-23.

For as much shite as the DCEU gets for not having a real long term plan other than "GET TO THE TEAM UP NOW!" the X-Men movies and the ridiculous continuity (w/all the pretzel twisting fans are forced to do to rationalize it) are proof positive that the suits at Fox are of the "Just put shite in a box, say it's new and improved, and the dumb teens will eat it up" movie making mentality.

Seen all the movies, and saw Logan last night. I'm currently watching origins and if you haven't seen you really should. Just disregard the weapon 11 part.

Fox gets shite on in here, it's not just a DC/WB thing. Both studios are willing to shake things up and take risks. Marvel has a formula that works and I don't blame them for sticking to it.

Fox puts story above continuity. You're not going to see an "Old Man Logan" from Marvel Studios. They're not going to risk losing or confusing any portion of their audience. It's just a different take.

This is actually all you really need to know. OP should just go see the movie and enjoy it.

And Charles Xavier had extremely strong telepathic powers, to the point where he could control other people.

And people hate mutants.

Yeah there were some good things about Origins. Just the ending was so bad it taints the movie in my mind. I mentioned elsewhere, I liked how Origins portrayed the added weight and power from the adamantium. Haven't seen that elsewhere really.
