I read where he was actually supposed to play Ewan McGregor's part in Ghost Writer. Also, was supposed to play Randy The Ram in The Wrestler but the director had to pull a lot of strings to approve the role for Mickey Rourke.

Kick-arse (2010) - Finally saw this last night. Was a big let down since it was built up so much. Decent action but didn't make me laugh really. Just ok.
AStro Boy (2009) - Shouldn't count since he didn't act.
The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009) - Never saw it.
Not sure how people feel about National Treasure movies but last one was 2007. - Turrible.

Ant Bully (2006) - See earlier post.
Matchstick Men (2003) - And we have a winner!

I get a little offended when people defend actors like Nic Cage. I mean I'm a working guy, construction, and if I do one good flooring job out of every seven or eight. I'm not going to get anymore work or be considered a good tile guy. I'm also in school, I can't bet one A and four F's and pass, not going to happen. Typically in life you aren't considered good at what you do with the type of success rate that is parallel to Nic Cage's. Sure he has a few good roles, some really good roles. But he's turned in way to many stinkers to have much of my respect anymore.

Well to extend your metaphor...

A movie is a house and their are lots of parts that make up a house. One particular actor is only a piece of the entire movie. He can turn in a great performance and the movie can still be crap. Just like you can lay tile perfectly, but if everything else is fricked, the house still looks like crap.

Nic Cage is awesome. He's got the chops to take on idiosyncratic drama roles, smart comedies, rom-coms, sci fi, mystery, action, etc.

He often seems over the top and manic, especially in his roles in the last 10-15 years. But that's okay, every actor has their unique charisma that never really changes. If he annoys you, whatever, but to say he hasn't been in many good movies is just foolish, yo.

Great analogy.

FWIW--Raising Arizona was the last good Nick Cage movie that was made good by Nick Cage.

that's actually a terrible analogy for the film industry. shows a dissonant understanding of how hollywood productions work. he's consistently been in great movies in the last 3 decades. because there are clunkers in the mix just means production overhead in major studios didn't match the marketing push/actual public interest.

The best Nic Cage movie is The Rock.

His worst is probably Firebirds.

I can't take any of his movies seriously anymore. Some of them might have been good, but the fact that he is in them gives me no desire to watch.
