It's "outfought," I just didn't look closely before I copied and pasted that quote.

quote:I don't think he's talking about how Sonny was killed. I think it was more of a hypothetical statement regarding Tataglia's overall capabilities. In effect, he's saying that Tataglia is not the kind of guy who could have competed with Sonny (as head of the Corleone family), therefore, he couldn't have been the guy behind what's happened.
I still think "outfoxed" makes more sense. I mean, they knew Sonny's temper, they pushed his buttons, he reacted as they expected he would, and they massacred him. Outfoxed.

"He never could've outfought Santino."
Did Tattaglia actually outfight him, i.e., were the Corleones losing at the time Sonny was murdered? I know he broke protocol when he went out by himself, but then Tattaglia was in that same boat, too. Was everyone aligned against the Corleones at that time, with Tattaglia their de facto leader, or were they all by that time using the war as an excuse to settle grudges against each other? It had been several months, and alliances could shift in that time. Sonny and Tom were arguing about how to end the stalemate right after the Don came home.
The thing that's perfectly clear is that they outfoxed Sonny WRT him getting massacred.

Riveting analysis, old chap.

No shite, sherlock. Outfoxed him, he did.

Well, if you have questions about every little aspect of the movie, maybe you should go back and re-watch it, and pay attention this time.
Oh, and
Actually, I hear Wonder Woman is pretty good. Why don't you go check that out and don't get your pretty little head so worked up over complex movies like this.

(lame quoting job snipped)
Hmmmmmmmmm Oh, and
Are you genuinely this dim? Or do you reflexively deflect when you can't carry on a conversation you unwisely jumped into? Either way it's sad.

Sad.
P.S. Your shitty copy-and-paste multiquoting was not worth the time to reformat in my reply, which is regrettable since I was going to point out your lame tactic of quoting a paragraph but snipping it in half instead of responding to it.

Use the word "outfoxed" again. That'll show me.
