I refused to see any SW movies after TLJ. That one did me in.

I think the issue with TFA and really that whole trilogy (well one of many issues) they basically rendered the original trilogy pointless

The empire was still basically the empire, so what was won there ? Neither skywalker actually killed Palp so frick that whole prophecy thing I guess…

You could have continued on without neutering everything that came before it.

I don’t know how they started that without a rough outline of the overall arc vs. just letting 3 directors do whatever the frick they wanted

Disney also just seems incapable of understanding that you don’t have to go completely over the top and alienate your core fan base to attract new demos. Tell entertaining stories and you can organically grow those demos.

I think they just went full retard with the success of black panther and leaned into straight pandering chasing a demo and believing the core would continue to show up because of the marvel/Star Wars IP attached even if they hate it.

I agree. And they actually did do that with Solo. But they had pissed so many people off with TLJ that Solo, actually a good and very entertaining movie, suffered bigly at the BO. But by then people not only had an awful taste in their mouths from TLJ, but also I think some SW fatigue was starting to come up somewhat.

I think that’s at least partially true. But your last sentence falls short a little IMO. I think initially they started introducing SHW and DEI type shite, and eventually they bought completely into the smell of their own farts and leaned into it fully. So then you have a Star Wars show full of lesbian witches and shite like that. I think at some point they assumed their few successes were BECAUSE of the SJW shite and not in spite of it. And that’s when they got way up on their high horse about it, to the point of not only forcing it into every single thing they possibly could, but also doubling down and publicly going at any dissenting opinion as “racist/homophobic/sexist/whatever.” They got cocky. And on the wrong side of what is entertaining. And they’ve suffered for it, and also don’t seem to have learned much either.

To be sure, Rian Johnson's non-Last Jedi movies have been great, but a thousand Benoit Blanc mysteries will never overcome what he did to ruin Star Wars.

JJ bringing Palpatine back was more of a middle finger to the OT than anything Rian did.
I could bypass your other posts because reasonable minds could differ, but this is just objectively wrong.

It was JJ Abrams’s effort to undo what Rian Johnson did.

Downvote away, but Rian Johnson has made the only interesting Star Wars movie since the original trilogy.

I mean...Johnson didn't leave him with much choice. Snoke was unequivocally killed off and Kylo Ren was so emasculated by a vision of Luke Skywalker at the end of that film there was absolutely no way he was going to be the main antagonist in the final film.

Yeah JJ had to come up with something since TLJ was all kinds of fricked. All the build up for Kilo, Snoke, and Phasma were just completely destroyed like they were a complete waste of characters And instead of those interesting characters he tried to push Rose Tico and give us Leia Poppins.

The final film isn't exactly the best time spot to have to add a major villain so I think JJ did about the best he could do.

Ruin Johnson completely destroyed that trilogy. I wasn't the biggest fan of The Force Awakens, but they had parts of it that peaked my interest. Who were Rey's parents? Who was Snoke? Tell me more of the Knights of Ren. What has Luke Skywalker been doing all this time? They had so many storylines to work with and Ruin Johnson completely nuked them.

Like what if Rey was Palpatines kid created out of the force but her parents were actually just bureaucrats hired to raise her. They left her on Jakku because they thought Palpatine died and they no longer had to raise her.

Snoke is the guy running the first order who was a Sith Lord apprentice after Darth Vader turned on Palpatine and dies. Snoke never actually meets Palpatine but communicates with Palpatine through Force Ghost
