Catwoman with Hallie Berry. That is one of the worst movies ever made and it was her first film after winning the Oscar. Great choice, there.

On Deadly Ground.

And you may say that Steven Seagal isn't mainstream. But he'd had several successful movies so the studio bankrolled him $50,000,000 (a lot of money in 1994) to make a mainstream movie for them. And he got a good cast (including Michael Caine) and made the worst mainstream movie I've ever seen. It's just excruciating.

Green hornet or green lantern are 1a and 1b worst mainstream movie ever made. Whether you have seen them are not is another story.

Meh. Under Siege was pretty mainstream. And a good film. AND he was good in it. A perfect storm though.

Other than that, I would agree with you - much like Kevin Smith, Seagal did better with less money, like in each's respective early films.

the basketball scene alone should have clued everyone in that it was going to be complete shite when they were making it.

I really hated Antman

Wife and I hated it as well, but I wouldn't say it's the worst movie I've seen. It's actually competently made, it was just really dumb IMO.

I recently watched Jupiter Ascending. That has to be one of the worst films of the past decade. I'm laughing just thinking about it. So bad.

Wait... people actually like this movie?

All I know is that movie is a mystery. And it's mystery is only exceeded by its power.

I'm going to throw the Count of Monte Cristo in here.

One of the best books ever written and one hell of a terrible movie.

Good god, that's awful. I'm not even going to look up the director, but I feel safe in saying that the only thing he should be allowed to shoot in the future is himself.

But nothing will ever top "Battlefield Earth" as the worst mainstream movie ever. I'm glad to see a few others in this thread agree, and yet feel an overwhelming sorrow for them and their lost innocence at having seen "Battlefield Earth." The Scientologists have engaged in kidnapping, imprisonment, brainwashing, government espionage, fraud, and a whole litany of crimes, possibly up to murder, and "Battlefield Earth" is still the worst thing they have ever done.

That's all these threads ever turn into. Just movies someone didn't like as much as most people did

Not that it could be enforced, but a rule stating you have to defend your choice in specific terms and particulars would be helpful. What didn't you like? Production values? Acting? Plot? Dialogue? Facile ambition? Soundtrack? And so on.

For instance, I think "Sucker Punch" was a godawful movie in terms of plot and characterization, as well as being the tritest sort of pop philosophy, but some of the visuals were absolutely incredible and the soundtrack, while not my cup of tea, was very effective. If I ignore the dialogue and the parts that try to explain or justify the plot, I can actually sit back and watch the movie for a purely visceral experience. So I leave it off my list of "worst movies ever" simply because it had at least a couple redeeming factors.

On the other hand, "Battlefield Earth" had nothing. Terrible acting that seemed to be forced by a very narrow definition of epic sci-fi. Incredibly obtuse plotting where nobody's motive and purpose was made comprehensible. Horrid plot holes and dangling themes. Dialogue that would embarrass hamadryas baboon, which I won't quote because I refuse to ever re-experience the lines again. It had no redeeming factors. If someone honestly thinks a movie is one of the worst of all time, they should be able to break down their hatred rather than resort to "boring and stupid" type critiques.

It would be more interesting reading. Even when I strongly disagree with the opinions of others I can get some sort of enjoyment out of a reasoned defense of what they hated. Granted, sometimes it is pretty visceral in a way that doesn't translate to the reader - but other times it is wonderful because of the perspective shift it can allow.

I know the upvote/downvote system is mostly about adding revenue to TD but a defense of a downvote would be useful because it would be more meaningful. An upvote, indicating general agreement, might not have to be elaborated upon.
