What grade was Ali actually in?

We know Johnny is a senior because "it's his last year and he's gonna make it work."
And we know they previously dated the year before...so Ali would have to be a sophomore at least.
But 3 months after the All-Valley Tournament, Daniel tells Miyagi in Karate Kid II that Ali fell for some UCLA football player.
Which doesn't make sense unless the UCLA player was a pedo because Ali is seen carrying around an Algebra 1 book in Karate kid which you take freshman year in H.S.
What grade is Daniel in? Why does he just get his license when in Karate Kid II (3 months later) he's supposed to be 18?
Is Ali secretly semi-retarded? Which is why she falls for Daniel? Even her friends constantly say, I don't know what she sees in him. Maybe Ali is like the child of the group...taking Algebra I as a senior while her friends are on Calculus.
The timeline is worse than 90210.

It really isn’t.
They were obviously seniors. The All Valley was in December. Part 2 says 6 months later and that Ali dumped him at prom for the college guy that she obviously met on a campus tour.
And it isn’t even an Algebra book, it’s a folder that has Algebra handwritten on it so like someone else said it’s her tutoring materials or even assignments/tests she’s grading if she is a TA or something for her college application.
Johnny constantly says how smart she was on CK, and she went on to become one of the most renowned spinal surgeons in the country so she obviously isn’t “semi-retarded”.
Daniel is obviously her slumming with the guy from the wrong side of the valley phase, which she gets over quickly.
And Daniel didn’t have his license because no one drives in Jersey.

It's actually a binder with it hand written on it, so it could just be an older binder she's reusing.
