Not sure how you are categorizing them but a lot of these shows started before 2010

They are categorized not by their first release date but rather by when they were available. For example, American Idol is listed in 2000s as well as 2010s. That method made the most sense to me.

Another example: Seinfeld. The show began in 1989 and ran until 1998. To list it as a 1980s show seemed wholly spurious as it was clearly watched mostly in the 90s. Shows such as Seinfeld that were released on the edge of a decade were listed under the decade where they spent the overwhelming majority of their run time. Shows that spanned decades widely, such as Gunsmoke and Law & Order, were listed under more than one decade. For example, Law & Order ran from 1990 until 2010. It made sense to me to list the show under the 1990s and 2000s.

A previous poster mentioned that Quantum Leap was missing from the 1980s. The show is listed under the 1990s as it ran from 1989-1993. To list it as a 1980s show because it spent only the first few months of its existence in the decade just seemed misplaced.

American Television?

how in the actual frick do you not understand the list is of full time series and doesn't include a miniseries movie?

At no point in the OP is there any sort of specification made about full-fledged series.

To leave off one of the highest-rated and most culturally significant television programs in history is unforgivable when compiling such a list.

All these lists make me want to do is weep for the quality of TV shows on regular network TV.

2010's if it keeps up
2000's

HBO, Amazon, Netflix, and cable only channels are putting out much better quality shows than network TV. The really great TV shows have been since 2000, and I say that as someone who remembers TV before color.

The current one (well, from 2000-present at least) and it isn't close

In hindsight, the majority of TV history is littered with campy, relatively low budget sitcoms, soap operas and crime dramas that just didn't hold up compared to what we saw in the cinemas and don't withstand the test of time.

In the last 15 years we've had shows like The Wire, Madmen, West Wing, Breaking Bad, GoT, The Sopranos, etc. which are every bit as good or better than what we see from high budget major motion pictures.

No Fall Guy from the 1980s??

Damn, completely forgot about that one. Had Heather as my avatar prior to my current one. I watched a good amount of the police and P.I. genre in the '80s and although Colt was a stunt man and bounty hunter, I did lump the show in that genre.

ETA: A few others from the '70s

McMillan & Wife (1971-1977)
McCloud (1971-1977)
Cannon (1971-1976)
Barnaby Jones (1973-1980)
Quincy M.E. (1976-1983)

'80s

Too Close for Comfort (1980-1987)

This. Simpsons and Seinfeld give the 90s a slight edge.

For my tastes, I would vote for the 70's. The comedies are outstanding.

The 2000s would be easily the best if it weren't for reality TV.

2010s has better dramas, but is lacking in good comedies. Plus, all the good content is only available via premium channels and streaming.

90s may be best overall due to its litany of outstanding sitcoms.

Also, Psych needs to be on your list for 2000s and 2010s.

I updated the lists with everyone's suggestions.

I am really impressed with the 1970s. I was of course aware of classics like All In The Family but I did not appreciate the breadth of quality produced in the decade. There are so many great shows.
