This goes back a ways, and it was not a movie but a series. Give "Shogun" a look. It deals with foreigners in Japan during the time of feudal warlords and samurai hierarchy.

Excellent series with good acting, great sets and lots of action as the story progresses.

EAT: Didn't read all the posts and see this has been recommended a few times. My bad, but it still is a great watch.

It's been mentioned a few times, but Shogun is essential viewing.

Not necessarily the greatest, but I enjoyed 47 Ronin far more than I thought I would. I see Rotten Tomatoes shits on it, but it's fun in the same way The 13th Warrior is.

How come emperor was God but didn't have power in japan

Interesting question. It obviously depended on the time period, often the emperors had great power over all life, other times they were treated similarly to the Queen of England, other times they were straight up ignored. This is pretty much the case for all emperors in all times for most civilizations

Ehh no it didn’t really work like that. Samurai were more like feudal lords and less like knights. Hell a lot of times Samurai were actively fighting against the emperor. I’m sure sometimes some of them protected the emperor

This. Also, the emperor was largely ceremonial. The real power was the Daimyo, the most powerful warlord.
Samurai was like a lord.
Shogun was a warlord with many samurai.
Daimyo was top shogun.

It was much like early feudal europe with small kingdoms constantly at war jockying over territory.
